[Mk2] [Generic] Any hints - Disassembly of Rev3 lights

Post by Rosssco »

Folks,

I'm looking for any hints from people who have doen this before - reason for it is to remove the foglight reflector in the driver side light cluster, so I can wire up all 4 red light to work as running / brake lights..

Any advise would be helpful, as of course, I'll end up cracking something.. ](*,)

Thanks,
Ross

iirc, you put them in the oven to soften the glue but obviously be carefull not to melt the lights themselves!

I did this to my old ones,

Warm the oven upto around 70deg.

Then put the lights in the oven for 3-5mins, Take em out and gently pry the front from the housing, After 3-5 mins in the oven you wont be able to move em much so just keep putting em back in for a few mins.

I did it like this as I didnt want to leave it in for too long and melt em

I used a wall paper scraper to pry em apart as its wide so spreads the load and also bends so you cant pry to much which helps to not crack em.

Just be patient and its quite an easy job.

Once you have em apart just unscrew the deflector and throw it in the bin :thumleft:

Thank you gents, I was thinking along the lines of gentle heat to loosen the glue... I'll try not do my usual, and forget I've put something in the oven, and go do something else (pizza's are the usual victim for this)...

Cheers,
Ross

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Have to admit, I didn't know that.

I did do an article a while back however and let one or two moderators know - I never heard a peep and it never made it to the knowledge base

Perhaps if we had an idiot (me) proof BIG menu/button with SUBMIT ARTICLE it wouldn't get missed (like they do on the mr2oc) :thumleft:
