[Mk2] [NA] Blown head gasket?

Post by as8133 »

The car is running really rough atm, like one of the pistons isn't firing. Plus there is a lot of gas blowing through the oil filler cap, does this mean blown head gasket? The problem is mostly noticable when the car is damp. In full dry conditions it seems fine?!

sounds more like you have a piston problem . i would have a garage carry out a leakdown test they will tell you for sure what it is then

If it's fine when dry, not consuming oil and not overheating it's probably two different problems. And neither is likely to be head gaskett.

Oil leak from the filler is either a blocked crank case breather, or just an old crappy oil seal.

The misfire when damp is probably ignition related. Plugs / leads / rotor arm or dizzy cap.
