[Mk2] [Turbo] finally cracked it, 301.4bhp and 288lb of torque...1.2bar

Post by jimGTS »

well its been a long time coming, and thanks to ryan (2bar tuning) who must of tried to map my car 3 times now....
got mapped, HG went
got mapped, turbo was on its way out
turbo from harry fitted
mapped again, and the results are below.....

the car pulls REALLY well midrange....
the car is pulling 280+lb of torque all the way from 4 to 5.5k rpm...peaking at around 288lb....
my top end is also holding really nicely hitting peak power of 301.4 (255whp) at 6.1-6.2k rpm and basically holds 300hp all the way from 5700 to 6500rpm! long top end!..

boost graph is pretty dam nice to! not going to better that for holding peak boost, lol....
i could have full boost come in sooner, but i prefer 0 boost spikes (which creates a torque spike to)...so i have it come in a little slower, irrelavant if gunning it anyway, lol.

all in all 255whp and 243lb-whp....and good mid and top end power....

not bad figures for a 1992 car, with 93000miles on the clock, unopened bottom end and an old stock rev3 ct series turbo....

and this is on an unbiased dyno, lol.

comparison to OLD dyno done on weaker turbo.....
see how the torque is just being killed! granted this was at 1.1bar.

great that you have finally hit the 300's

thing that concerns me though is that if you had spent your money more wisely then you could have been looking at 350+bhp just now... :-k

still good that you have finally got there....

Well done. Glad you got there in the end.

A list of mods would be helpful to us.

more wisely? you kidding, where exactly have i gone wrong?
end of the day i only have a ct20b, 540s, power fc, and basic bolt ons, lol......
sure, if i spent all my money on the engine i would probably be near 500+, not 350, but i clearly havent, its gone on the whole car, lol....

Hi Jim, so you are on a ct20b now? What was the one before that was causing you problems? Ct26?

Well done, hopefully I am in that arena now too :D:D

Cheers.

no, the old one was on a ct20b to, but the seals were basically gone....leaking oil and lowering the octane, which ment ryan couldnt advance the timing as much....

Ah yes, you can see how it dropped off a lot, although the peak I suppose can be attributed to the lower boost somewhat.

Good job. Do you reckon you are satisfied with the performance now or will you keep pushing?

its the torque difference mainly, you look at the torque curves on both those graphs....
it holds much stronger in the higher revs....as well as peak power, its holds for a while, while the older graph it just peaks for a split second and dives....
sure, there was 0.1bar difference, but theres also a 22-23hp difference in that 0.1bar..

itll keep me happy for a few months i recon....then ill be looking at a small GT series and some 800 injectors and run the same sort of boost to get closer to 280-300atw....

in the mean time ill be taking it down the pod, and taking it to various other dynos to compare results...

Are you guys still going then? I was gonna opt out due to weather. May tag along if your goin Jim...at least some1 to convoy with...

Do I have to run in a brand new reconditioned turbo? Ive done about 20 miles already excluding the trip up there...doesnt need running in if I have a ball bearing correct?

I asked this very question only a week ago, they dont really need running in, but according to TT, my one needed a short while for some toyota part on the ct20b to bed in. Hour or so of driving and I gave it some stick :thumleft:
