[Mk2] [Generic] BAD vibrations!

Post by teccyjim »

It's coming from the front, been on the car since i got it, is worse at speed and a differenet set of wheels and tyres has failed to cure the problem.

Are there any mr2 'common fault areas' on the front end I could check first? Really need this sorting now- it's driving me nuts and is probably dangerous.

Many thanks,
Jimbo

Try front balljoints first - not too dear if sourced from the right place and probably need doing by now anyway.

Also might be worth checking track-rod ends and inner balljoints where the trackrods join onto the steering rack.

could also be a suspension fault but could also just be a case of the tracking being out... :-k

Thanks fellas. I changed the inner ball joints (to PAS rack) on my turbo as they failed the MOT last time around but couldnt notice any vibration. Think i'l take it to my local garage and get them to give it an MOT 'style' check over things. Will report back once I know the fault.

Thanks again,

If you've got aftermarket alloys make sure you've got properly fitting spigot rings if the bore isn't the same as the hub (60.1mm). Things get very wobbly if the wheels aren't centred on the hub.

One common symptom is that the wobble gets better and worse as the wheels go in and out of balance with each other as they rotate. Usually worst around 80mph.
