[Mk2] [Turbo] Recorded 0-60 time in lightweight SW20

Post by jonb- »

I'm fortunate enough to have recently bought a nice piece of GPS logging software that gives me lots of nice information. Last night I went out for a bit of a play (private road).

I only had a couple of speed runs. My car has circa 300bhp@fly and is quite stripped (1150kgs with a tank of fuel).

0-60 was dispatched in 4.4 second with 100mph at 11 seconds.

What's interesting is a) I had a bit of wheelspin and b) I had trouble selecting second. Looking at the raw data it actually took me 0.45 seconds from initial lift to WOT boost again in 2nd. The changes to 3rd and 4th to hit 100 were even slower.

If I'd warmed up my rears, had a good launch and flat changed to second I think my MR2 might touch 4 seconds.

I found it interesting anyway.

I like it Jon, especially as mines virtually identical!

Did you hit 60 in second? I reckon my 0-60 would be around 4 secs if you couldnt hit 60 in second, as I can because of my bigger wheels, although my 0-100 would probably be a tad slower. What do you think?

Either way it goes to show how quick they are with reasonably few mods (to your engine anyhow).

That's a great time. Shows just how well the MR2 can lauch off the line.

It bodes well for other 300bhp tubbies that aren't stripped out in hitting sub-5 sec 0-60 times.

I don't go on MSN anymore Jon as I now have some sort of life--lol

If you could mail them to my work addy I would be very interested, I might even be able to overlay the accel graphs with my theoretical ones I created from the tractive effort curves, from that I could work out the rolling and aerodynamic resistance curve and do all sorts of predictions, such as theoretical max speeds and accels due to changes in power/gearing etc.

"Life"... is that a new type of engine? :-k

I'll plot the 0-100 run tonight with speed, distance and long. acc. and email over.

when I say life I mean a missus and a 3 year old who I have to teach how to drift properly on need for speed.

Any joy with the tyre test?

Unfortunately 'life' has gotten in the way of doing this at the end of Feb so it's looking potentially the 25th March. Will email when I know more.

Good figures there. I presume you have to change to 3rd just before 60mph in a standard turbo? I've never really noticed before. Lol.

nice time mate but very average for a rev3 with that kind of power...I've timed myself in different ways but 0-100 can be seen in around 10 secs with these cars and that power, but then again you could have done it better :-k

have a look at other sports cars and the so called "best of the best" running standard power times...you will be surprised what you can beat...

mrtee, how else did you measure your times? Are they as accurate as a GPS?

cool, well considering your cars 'only' got 50bhp or so over standard and it will go all day with that much power then those times are pretty impressive, especially as there real times and not measured by your mate in the passenger seat with a stop watch........

Wasn't stock rev3 270 odd? If that's the case i've only got 30 over stock and as TDI said at the dyno "You'll never kill this engine with det it runs so rich". I'm impressed with how rapid the car is for it's power / weight. I didn't think I'd sit on my mates bumper to 125mph (new 420bhp V8 M3) but I did.

I meant to cut out those charts over the weekend for you but I didn't have time. Will try and do it tonight.
