My handbrake light - (!) in red - comes on sometimes during braking, accelerating or cornering. I have checked the fluid level and all is well. Does anyone know what the prob may be?
It isn't all the time, just occasionally. It first did it Sat morning, but then I did a whole trackday with no issues and the light never came on (hard use) but then in the evening on the way home when the going was more gentle it did it again once or twice......
Thanks guys...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brakes Warning light
you sure your brake fluid is topped upto the full mark ?
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brakes Warning light
It's between min and max.....admittedly nearer min than max....should it be neared the top then?
I'll give that a try and see......cheers

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brakes Warning light
yes get it near the max
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brakes Warning light
Thanks guys - topped it right up. Will have to go for a drive soon to test..........
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brakes Warning light
Could be low pads.
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brakes Warning light
I def dont have a low pad warning light......having once got them so low I ended up with metal on metal!!!!
Havent yet had a chance to drive the car since topping up the fluid...will post when find out if it has helped

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Brakes Warning light
When the pads are low the pistons have to push out more. This requires more brake fluid to go to the calipers than when the pads are newer. More brake fluid in calipers = less in resivoir = warning light!
Hope that makes sense!

Ahhh, I see. Yeah, that makes perfect sense - also explains a lot. The trackday would have worn the pads a lot, and therefore presented the situation you explain......
Nice

Just be careful that as and when you do replace the pads, the excess fluid needs to go somewhere....
I usually undo the bleed nipple with a pipe over it to a container and letting the fluid run to waste. It's easier than trying to syphon/extract the fluid from the resevoir.
HTH.
PS you'll need to bleed the cailper if you follow the method I described

Yeah, thanks - I realise that - you would have thought they could design a system where full fluid and new pads was still ok (level-wise) when the pads were used up.
Oh well....
