[All] [Generic] Stripping lacquer from carbon fibre

Post by nightSpirit »

Anyone know the best way to do this? I need to strip a bonnet back as the lacquer cracked and water got under it. Part of the lacquer is removed but the rest that didn't get affected by water is near impossible to remove.

Any suggestions? I want the quickest and easiest way to do it.

The CF is wet lay (I think) so removing the lacquer and leaving the nice matt finish is what I'm ideally after.

can a pressure washer damage carbon fibre?? If not a high powered pressure washer with blast the laquer off :).

Maybe phone your local bodyshop and see if they have anything you could try?

Got a feeling It is going to be a task using various grades of sanding paper and special compounds Emulsion materials? Probably from Ultra super fine to various other grade numbers? Body shop guys will confirm pretty soon I expect? Then a few coatings of marine clear coatings Emulsion weather and ultra violet ray proof? Out of Interest can the clear coat be baked or not after when ready?
