[Mk2] [Turbo] Screamer Pipes

Post by Steve-O 2007 »

Hi,
I was just wondering if a Screamer Pipe can be fitted to a normal / lightly modded Rev3 Turbo. I have herd quite a few cars with these on and think they sound quite good :)

Thanks

actually, could you not just adapt a s/s downpipe...ie. add an extra flange and then once the wastegate has its own section just make a hole and weld on your screamer pipe... :-k

yes, it's called a divorced downpipe, and like you say separates the gases from the internal wastegate out it's own screamer pipe. :thumleft:

some people weld the oem WG shut and weld a external WG fitting to the OEM manifold ,then obv use a ext WG with S/pipe. gives a lil better control over the boost, but tbh, bit pointless.

unless you let off when going past police cars ;). Dont they only make the loud noise when you boot it?

They sound great (im guessing that noise is from the screamer pipe) :D -

Nice R32 how do they compare to the mr2. Can you still throw them around or do they feel too much of a large car for small roads?

My old supra had one and they cause no problem for mots. They don’t make any noise when the mot is being done.

i like the sound of this. so all thats needed is to section the wastegate area of the downpipe from the turbo exit area, then add a screamer pipe to the sectioned off wastegate part of the downpipe so the gasses escape through the pipe and dont mix with the existing turbo exhaust gasses. is this right?? :-k

heres one way of doing it.

This is the kit i have

The wastegate gasses come out of the small hole in the turbo (in the pic) into the small pipe that you can see off the down pipe into the wastegate. Then onto the screamer.

Screamer pipes are used to allow better flow in the exhaust
