Non MR Cars for Sale

Post by senie »

It would be extremely helpful to some people to have a seperate section on the forum for selling non MR2's.
I am buying one at the current time and am therefore selling the current car (FTO). Very frustrating!
Have been told that we are not allowed to sell any non 2's.

Is this helping potential owners sell their cars???

Every other OC i have been/am a member of allows this either in one section or in a seperate. ](*,)

Whilst I appreciate what you are saying i still do not think that it is necessary to allow other cars to be sold on this forum. There are plenty of other places to sell non-MR2s.

Also when people browse the items for sale section they expect to find MR2s and related stuff. Otherwise it becomes a bit like ebay and one of those is enough.

If we allowed non MR2s to be sold on this forum then it wouldn't be long before people would want to sell non-MR2 parts too. At which point the for sale section may as well be ebay motors.

Other forums may allow it, but i for one don't see the point. If i wanted to buy an FTO for example I wouldn't go looking for it on IMOC. I'd got to the FTO club etc.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one i'm afraid.

Why not just seperate the other section for NON MR2's for SALE and allow car bits to be put on.

Bear in mind your not going to have Tom, Dick and Harry posting up unless they have a keen interest in 2's. Most will not even know the site exists. Or when the premier member bit comes about, make the for sale section a benefit of upgrading.
The reason i am on here i as i have owned 3 and want to again.

Senie,

It looks like the Guidelines in the For Sale Section have gone AWOL, so I appriciate your post was made in good faith.

However, there is a policy of only MR2 related items being allowed in the For Sale Section - Cars as well as parts, so Lauren is correct.

This is really just to ensure the content in the For sale section is MR2-relevant.

The Sticky outlining these guidelines should be back early next week.

Ben.

I still don't understand what harm an "other things" section would have.

It wouldn't necessarily cause any harm, but why not simply use ebay?

Why not simply use MR2OC for MR2 content?

A narrow minded one it seems :)

OK it's obvious the mods don't want a section that the members do... I bow down and respect your authority.

Hmmmn, IIRC Esmond was thinking of looking at this as a sub-forum - though to be honest I'd have thought it is very unlikely people wanting to buy a car other than an MR2 would look on an MR2 board. Often people just want to put their ads everywhere but it doesn't mean it increases the chance of sale if they're not doing it to the right audience?

Of course you could get round this by saying 'Wanted - FTO in part-ex for an MR2' or similar :D

Bottom line is this - we're an MR2 forum, not a bring and buy. I've personally removed some entirely inappropriate items from the "For Sale" section (including someone wholesaling Nike trainers!), and feel strongly that the quality of content in this section should be maintained.

That said, we are aware of the demand for an area to sell non-mr2 related items. In order to add the functionality to the site we would want to enable sub-topics - ie "For Sale" would then contain further categories such as "MR2s", "Parts", "Non-MR2s" etc. To do this would require an amount of technical resource which is at the moment dedicated to sorting out other areas of the forum (premium mebership, avatars etc).

Since this is a facility that members are asking for, it is likely that it will be added to the forum in time. In the meantime though we are dealing with issues closer to IMOC-UK's core requirements.

New tubby is already bought, so unfortunately dont want to p/x (just hasnt arrived yet!) :(

It could always be for people looking for a second car, maybe as a runabout

I appreciate its not the most urgent of things, but seeing as you guys are doing the updating stuff/redoing forum/whatever its called at mo, i thought i might as well post this now (plus it was quite appropriate for me)

Small update....

I decided it would be better to include this now rather than later as the further we mod the board the more difficult it will become to add subforums.

I now have subforums working on the test site...it has broken some other stuff and I am working to fix all that now..so it looks like we will have subforum in the next update.

I understand future MR2 members wanting to sell their car in order to buy an MR2. However (this is just my opinion) car's like FTO's (I have had one) would be best sold on the FTO site....or even Autotrader....FTO site charge a small membership fee......gotta be worth joininh it even to sell the car......15-20 quid on a sale wouldnt make much diff.....anyhoo......specialist cars are best sold on specialist sites,....you'd save time and effort in selling too....( I can vouch for that ) and anyone selling a more common (no offense) car like a Corsa, Escort etc etc would be best on Autotrader anyway.....
You ahve to look at it from a potential buyers view.......if I wanted a nice FTO I'd go to FTOOC straight away.....and have an eye on the trader....same for scooby's, Evo's etc etc.
Just my 2p's worth of advise.

How about current members with two cars trying to sell one for instance. (apologies for using you Toni). Toni has a HUGE collection of cars and if she were for instance to advertise one for sale (non mr car) another member may think, "ah toni is selling that. i could use that as my track day car...." etc etc.

Incidently, i'm also on ftooc. as is the car which is also in the trader, local cruise sites, mr2oc and various others that i cant remember.

I know what you're saying mate (though I dispute the fact that I have a huge number of cars, LOL!) I have a Discovery and a skyline - I'd sell both away from IMOC though - if people want a skyline they'll look on the skyline forums....just my opinion. We are still looking into sub-forums though and if it happens I am sure we'll have a non-MR section.

We had subforums on the test site for a week or so and the code was just not stable enough...and it had to be backed out.

There are other subforum solutions that I am looking into.
