[Mk2] [NA] Overfuelling - lamda sensor?

Post by milan »

My car is a rev2 n/a Gltd and its overfuelling quite a lot. Just wanted to know that if my lambda sensor is gone will this show up on the diagnostics check? I think it should do but is it possible that this problem will not show up because i have done the diagnostics and it came up with no errors at all.

Just want to eliminate the things that it is deffinately not before i go buying parts to fix the problem.

Just after some learning... How did you find out it is over fueling?

Sorry, probably a stupid question... #-o

Thanks.

Regards,
Vítor

PS: about your question, have no clue. :(

The fuel is dropping a lot quicker than usual and also the exhaust is popping alot which is the unburnt fuel and that is with a cat on the car because i took the decat pipe off and put the cat back on. Also my mate who is a mechanic said it was overfuelling a lot.

Lambda issues don't come up as an error code...

Check the knowledge guide here, you'll need an analogue voltmeter.

Thanks that link is exactly what i need, should have checked this before posting... #-o .

Im going to check this at the weekend and hopefully this is the problem, and if it is it would make sense as to why the car is over fuelling.

Any idea if that guide is valid for Rev 2 N/As or just Rev3 onwards?

Just looked on the BGB for a 91 Mr2, looks the same.

Its basically the same for all cars - get the sensor hot first (needs to be at ~400C to work at all) and hold at steady engine revs.

The ECU will then try to fine tune the fuel air mix, going either side of the ideal - which means you will see a voltage output between 0v and 0.8-0.9v from the sensor, changing rapidly (the needle will 'wag')

Has your NA got an airflow meter? Would be also worth checking that, as if the output from that isn't smooth as the flap inside opens that would also cause popping/banging as the ECU gets the air/fuel ratio wrong.
