[Mk2] [Turbo] apexi air filter mk2 rev1 turbo

Hi guys i bought a secondhand apexi filter for my turbo its the correct model etc.the problem is with the rain guard on it is'nt a very good fit i have taken the complete original filter off, i did'nt have any brackets with it which it seems it should have,does the afm have to be flat as it is when fixed to the original air box or can it be rotated to make it fit better.
anyone got any photos of theirs fitted?.
