A few people has been asking if I'm planning to run another Group Purchase for Copper Contact Dizzy caps, so I thought I'd post here and gauge interest

- if there are five people definitely interested, the group purchase will go ahead.

For those of you who haven't heard of this modification before, its basically a modification to the surface of the Aluminium contacts inside the standard Toyota provided distributor cap to bond on copper contacts.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
The reason for doing this is that the aluminium contacts in the standard cap are eaten away by the action of the spark jumping the gap, and this spark also causes the formation of an insulating Aluminium oxide layer.

With copper contacts, the contact isn't eaten away
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
With time, the amount of spark energy that goes into jumping this gap increases, with less available at the spark plug tip.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
This eventually results in misfires under boost.

If you take the dizzy cap off your car, you'll probably find white deposits on the face on the contact
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- if you scrape these off and find you've got a concave contact surface you could do with a new Dizzy cap.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Typically, its Turbo and SC cars with forced induction that suffer most from the contacts being eaten away
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- I have done this mod for NA cars by request, but it is not generally as much of a problem.

To give you a rough idea of price
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- the last Group Purchase I ran earlier this year with 20 people ended up with costs of:
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Rev1 Turbo
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
:
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
£~63 for Cap, rotor arm and dust seal
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
+ Special Delivery
Rev2-on Turbo
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
:
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
£~60 for Cap, rotor arm and dust seal
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
+ Special Delivery
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Mk1 NAs and SCs were a fair bit cheaper at around
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
£35 per cap
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
Final prices for any Group Purchase will vary depending on numbers.

Timescales
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- well, the parts come in from the USA and from me ordering them they usually take 4-6 weeks before they arrive with me in the UK
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- and then I need a week or so to modify them all and send them on.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
If people want them more quickly than this, I can get the parts from a local dealer
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
- but parts in the UK are much more expensive than the USA
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(even factoring in Import duty, VAT, shipping etc) you'd be looking at
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
£25ish more than the above prices.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
If you want to have a quick look at a finished cap, and what is involved in removing
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
/ refitting the cap, I put together an installation document for a previous Group Purchase
