Hi all,
Can anyone recomend a good suspension set up for me please?
Most of my driving is fast twisty B roads through the new forest and a bit of motorway driving.
Im running standard shocks/Spax -40mm springs/ and arb bushes and drop links are all less than a year old.
Im having trouble keeping the car in a straight line at anything over 60, constantly correcting the steering, especially on the motorway in the wet where the car is constanly sliding like driving on gravel ie can feel the nose of the car shimmy left and right and at the end of each drive im exhausted from having to concentrate so hard keeping the old girl on the road! I had a check done recently and although tracking etc was out i was told it was so marginal as to make no difference.
Basically im fed up with the handling and thinking a complete overhaul is needed. I might as well upgrade what i have at the same time so what would you guys recomend? I was thinking of the following :
Decent Coilovers maybe Tein Super streets?
New topmounts Tein or TRD?
Replacing front and rear lower ball joints
Whiteline flat out 20mm ARB's
Four wheel alignment
Would appreciate any suggestions you have guys
Regards
Matt

If you got deep pockets i'd recommend a Reiger setup. £750 a corner including the design work

Cough, just spat coffee everywhere!
How much!!! I had a budget of about £1100 inc fitting! Or is that unrealistic for a good set up?

I had pi 40 mm springs and removed them for standard rev 3 turbo springs and is alot better on everyday roads. I also got new TRD top mounts and cusco strut braces and TRD anti rol bars and everyday use is fine

LOL...£1100 is more then feasible. This is what i'd recommend, cos i have it:
Bilstien Yellows all around
Suspension Technique anti roll bars
H&T bushes all around
Standard springs
New ball joints
Get good rubber!
You'll be laughing with a setup similar to above

Similar Q asked a couple weeks ago...consensus was all V8 Killer above mentions but progressive springs rather than standard for the 'fastest' road set up.
If you want bling there are plenty of coilovers on the market though for £1100 or so.

Agreed Toni. A decent Tein setup would cost around that.

Re: Someone please recomend a suspension set up!
Thanks guys, much appreciated =D> so which is going to give better for stabillity and cornering in the wet?, Teins or the billies? ie if handling will be better with a coilover set up but costs a bit more, id rather spend the extra as i only want to do this once
Re: Someone please recomend a suspension set up!
Stick to the yellow billies IMO. 20% uprated over stock.
I found the Teins harsh when i had them on my car initially, but lovely on good roads / track!
For all around driveability though, you can't go wrong with the billies!

I had Koni's/Eibach on my car before I had the Teins fitted, and I've driven on both. The Koni/Eibach setup was good, but hard as hell, whist the Tein's (Type Flex) had the adjustability to be firm but compliant enough to not be uncomfortable, and believe me, the roads round my area are dire!
On top of that, the coilovers give you the added bonus of full ride hight adjustment.
That's the main reason I had Tein's fitted to the beast.

This is what I have just purchased.
Bilstein B6 yellow struts....Rogue...£499.99
Tein S-Tech Springs..........Rogue..£158.50
Droplinks front & rear....Camskill...£76.00
Bumpstops/gaiters......Larkspeed...£49.90
Balljoints front & rear........SBITS...£89.22
High & Tight bush kit.........SBITS...£90.00 (previous group buy)
Grand Total................................£963.61
Which is what V8 Killer has suggested with the exception of Tein springs instead of standard. Anyway at least the above will give you some idea of current prices.

Re: Someone please recomend a suspension set up!
Guys, we're forgetting Tyre profiles.
Toyota designed the standard Billies and springs to work with the Tyre profiles provide at stock.
I've had 17" Wheels with 40 profile tyres and experienced just what CADAVER has mentioned.
Tram lining, and bumping like mad on country roads over 60MPH, my god a standard fiesta could keep with you, it felt that nervous.
What tyres are U using CADAVER?
I recommend, if your not using standard wheel & tyre combo see if you can borrow some just to try, the difference will surprise you. Turn in will not be quite as sharp as theres more tyre flex but stability will be better.

From what I have gleaned from here and other MR2 forums it should deliver a drop of about 35mm.

Re: Someone please recomend a suspension set up!
Cheers Bob, with regard to tyres im running Falken FK 452's:
Front = 205/40/17
Rear = 215/40/17
Ive found them to be pretty good all round, excelent in the dry and pretty grippy in the wet. I hope they arent the reason as they are all fairly new with about 6mm tread left!

Re: Someone please recomend a suspension set up!
how would konis h&t rear bushes, superflex front bushes, new ball joints, newish droplinks, rev one stock roll bars and 205 40 17 toyo fronts and 225 45 17 good year eagle f1s feel?
Re: Someone please recomend a suspension set up!
I ran the yellow billies for some time and have to say that personally I never really got to grips with them. From there I then fitted some Koni adjustable inserts and mated them to the Eibach springs that i already had. I still honestly think hand on heart that this is the very best set up for a road dwelling 2
