I've been told in the past that the best spark plugs to go for are NGK - BKR6E.

An oil that a lot of people are using and that Oilman recommended to me was Silkolene Pro S 5-40w. Probably about £40 for 4 or 5 litres, can't remember. You can get it from www.opieoils.co.uk .

I wouldn't change the leads if they look ok but if you do the standard Toyota ones are recommended.

Its also recommended to use the MR2 Turbo (even on the NA) oil filter as it has a bypass function.

Check the dizzy cap/rotor arm etc and if they need replaced do them also.

Hope this is of some help.

The proper plugs are supposed to be BKR6EYA but are hard to get hold of. I just used BKR6E.

If anyone knows what the difference with the above two plugs are it would be interesting to know. The NGK catologue says YA means special design but has no description of what is special about them.

John,

this chart might be useful

Image

"A" is special design, but "Y" is V-grooved centre.

Thanks for that Ian. I did actually look at that chart and the BKR6E plugs i installed have a V groove on the centre electrode anyway In theory then NGK have missed a Y off the end of the plug code ???? Pretty confusing :?
