Warning! Motorsport can be dangerous! ;) (Rebuild diary)

Post by Mark Mailer »

Hi all, I'm not a regular on these boards any more (I blame evil work), well I was a regular on the old IMOC-UK Yahoo! Groups mailing list... So gives you an idea ;)

Anyway, I've been driving in the MR2 challenge and as any good first season has had plenty of ups and downs! Sadly at the last meeting at brands I took a bit of a hit, it was a racing incident and essentialy you're liable just by being out there...

So this is how the car looked after brands:

And some close ups afterwards:

As you can see, it looks pretty healthy underneath the skin, nothing bent! Pretty tough little cars!

Image

So I've began to start to take off all the damaged parts and now it's looking a bit skeletal!

So to anyone thinking of joining in with the fun, even if you have a pretty major incident (I think it's the worst we've had this year! Correct me if I'm wrong) it's really nowhere near as bad as it first seems :D

I'll definately be able to make it to Snetterton, with a new and wonderful paint job ;)

I'll keep you posted with the progress, and most importantly of the total cost of repairs, which should show just how cheap to race these cars are.

Mark

Hiya Tim,

Yeah, thought I'd share the news and try and get some interest into how the cars go together and and just how easy to work on they are ;)

I'll be at Mallory but just a civvy this time, but there to cheer you all on! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Hi Anna, I honestly thought it was going to be much much worse than it was!

But everything is straight amazingly! The door took a mighty pounding but I think most of the force went into the roll cage, the sill is untouched surprisingly!

Not going to make Mallory but will be along to watch and then will be ready for the final at Snetterton! All being well I'll be able to get most of what I need from Jinxy this weekend and then have some time to get everything bolted back on.

Hi Speedy, yeah I'll be there mooching around the paddock no doubt ;)

TBH that's the only incident I've had all year, and then it's probably the worst anyone has had... D'oh!

I think on the whole the racing has been really good, a few taps here and there... I think most of the vids are edited to show the interesting moments ;) And if we didn't want to have a bit of arjy bargy here and there, with some touch and go maneuvers then I'd still be doing trackdays ;)

Hi Mark,

Good to see you around again - looks like you've been enjoying yourself in the Mk1, good to hear you'll be able to get it sorted and get back racing.

I can still remember your post after your first trackday at Donnington in your old Blue Mk1 ;) :thumleft:

Hiya Ben! See you've gone for the MkIII tubby eh? Very cool!

Yeah, how things have changed since then!!! That really was ages ago, ah the memories of spinning at every corner, going sooo slow but having sooo much fun! *wipes tear*

How times ahve changed!

Yep, there's Sarah's vid and Patrick has a vid on mr2challenge.com as well, so plenty to see! I can tell you, it was bloody quick and I only had enough time to think... "bu88er, here come Rob [into my side]... And here comes the Armco!"

Still, thanks to Jinxy looks like I'll be ready for Snett! Yay!

I made the mistake of posting my in-car footage in the "Events Video" section, so I think everyone missed it!

It's here:

Hi Mark,

Welcome back :)

Bad luck at Brands :( Hope you get it sorted soon though

Don't know if you've seen the thread about the MK1 Club BBQ... Hope you'll come and say hi and grab a burger 8)

Patrick - another good video. Pity about the spinnage and cross country roaming though :)
