Before you blow a wad on bigger brake kits,
I strongly suggest you try a new set of Plain Disks and Better PADS!

EG, Carbotech Panther Plus - Speak to Rogue Systems

If you have a Rev1 however... Upgrading to bigger Rev2+ Brakes is a quick and simple upgrade.

its unlikely the standard calipers will be 100% either, they are pretty old after all.

For the road? Keep in mind that Toyota are not stupid. Your brakes were designed to stop you from 150mph, in all weathers. As standard they might not look flashy, but they have been designed to a good specification. Even with 500 bhp to play with you are unlikely to repeatedly exceed 150 on the road. Get your brakes serviced and rebuilt to standard, give them some time to bed in, then you can assess them properly.

the yanks really seem to rate the stock brake system (except rev 1) on the mr2 even for high horsepower cars. from what i've read over there, it's not a really good idea to up the braking at the front, and not do a similar performance upgrade on the back. I'd stick with stock brakes and good pads unless they really don't seem to be up to it. Hi-Spec do a big brake conversion kit but i don't know who it is on here that has one of there kits (some peeps definately do tho')

Other people have tried the supra or GT4 brakes, but a lot of messing about seems to be involved in getting everything to fit properly.

Its the "ive got a 500bhp MR2" bit that makes me question people...it wouldn't be the first time, you ask them how they got to 500bhp and it usually is the old super chip pub bhp crew!

that's what i'd do. good pads, disks and hoses. complete flush of fluid and if necessary caliper refurb. Stock disks are meant to be very good, but would maybe look a bit plain on a widebody.
