Where can i get a brand new alternator or recon

Post by reanimation »

And how much? :?:

I have alread tried toyota parts gatewaym with no result.

I still have to do some experimenting it would be good to know where these parts can be got at. and how much!

Its sure seems to be a common fault on the MK1 and it would be good to get it sorted once and for all. is it cos of the water dripping through the engine lid or are they just a bit crap?

Autojapspares - 02476474848 £116 with an exchange unit. That's for a recon.

I imagine you could get a similar price at a local autofactors.

Tony or Kev are probably your best bet if you need a used part.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

Yeah i have spoke to tony, and lefta message on 'charging light' thread for him. Just seeing how much a recon one is so theres more chance ofit keeping going in theory that is! a bloke of my dads had a price of about 130 odd, guess that was a recon one, which is as good as new right?

Probably a recon, I've had a recon in my Mk1 for the last 3 years with no issues. They're stripped and rebuilt units, so yeah as good as new. :D

If it was me I think I'd get a recon one. Local motor factor quoted me £95 to recon mine earlier this year, would think thats a similar price wherever in the country. HTH

Mark, I looked into this a while ago when the alternator failed on my one, I got quoted £300 from MrT, £120odd from my Motor Factors, and £25+£10 Next Day Postage from a guy on here, and its been fine for over a year and hod an excellent charge! (usually holding it above 3/4 on the charging guage on low/medium throttle)

Also the rover alternator from a 216 Honda Engine Derivative fits perfectly (Same electrical connections AFAI Can Remember) if you swap the pulley from the old one, once again about £25 off ebay, unless you got to your local scrappie even cheaper (dependant on how well you know him ;) )

Just another source.... I was trying to find an alternator for our uber rare SC engine, and couldn't find one anywhere - so if you can't buy another and have to refurb your own, you CAN get it refurbed by the people who made it:
from another thread wrote:
I phoned up Denso (UK), and they couldn't help, but put me on to Nipon.
Nipon will refurb any Nipon-Denso alternator for £125 plus VAT.

Nipon: 0121 3110313
Apparently there are in Birmingham somewhere.

Thanks for that anna and Leigh,

at the moment http://www.alternatormart.co.uk are proving to be quite helpful, offering free delivery, which is helpful as i am currently cycle bound.

offering '£ 119.00 This is for a Replacement Unit & includes VAT'
including 12 month guarantee.

which doesnt seem bad, i imagine thats a recon unit but the do specialise in brand spangly ones... so i'm just finding out what the deal is before i commit...
