my turbo vs. Corvette ZR1

Post by Ian Geary »

So I overtook a car at about 70ish that was trundelling along the (empty) A43.

10 seconds later, check my rear view, and there it is right behind me. Didn't know exactly what it was at this point, so I floored my car as it seemed the decent thing to do.

I got my tubbie up to 130 as fast as quick as I could, but this car is still hanging on my bumper, looking well capable of rolling straight over me.

I decided to get legal again as traffic and islands loomed on the horizon. I found I could get the jump on it away from islands, but it always caught up pretty damn quick.

The next long straight I let it past to see what it was, when it obligingly flew past me with a very satisfying roar. But soon after caravan traffic had built up to keep us at 50ish.

Anyway, just looked up the ZR1 on the interweb, to find it has 375bh/p. So that would be why his car made mine look positively sluggish then. It also had a NOS sticker on the back bumper, but I doubt he wasted that on me.

It ended with him turning off into some services - presumably to fill up. My fuel gauge had dropped about 3 notches in 10 mintues or so.

A nice little run to stretch my car's legs, but this car was in a different leauge at high speed.

ROFL you guys are so funny!! Just a reality check here...

I think "cannon fodder" is a little rash since your garage 1/4 mile is 12.3 and the *stock* ZR1 is 12.4 as seen here http://www.dragtimes.com/Chevrolet-Corv ... -8346.html

Guys! Your cars are fast, but sometimes, geez, your descriptive words leave a lot to be desired!!

But it's not all about 1/4 mile you know. I can guarantee both mine and Mike's car will way outhandle a corvette.

I thought it still had leaf springs and a live axle at the back.. so they haven't learnt that much, if that's the case..

get yerself a copy of EVO, and check out the laptime of the C06 in the back round Bedford.

It cuts WAY more scalps than you would imagine. It is extremely fast. EXTREMELY.

For the money, I don't think there is a new car to beat it bang for bucks.

The C6 is the latest, 6.0 V8 400bhp 0-60 in 4.3s, 186 mph top. All that fun for 45k!!! Of course like the MR2 you could tweak it, how about a Callaway Supernatural package, 7.0 litres, 550 bhp, only 33k dollars

The modern corvettes can handle.

The thing is there is no in between with the yanks. The suspension is either crap or track day only!

So on a uk road with track only suspension (very stiff) the car would bounce off the road lol.

I bet they are a complete pig to launch consistently well ! But like stated by Mark the MR2 is a great deal more capable in the twistys :) having said that, my time of 12.3 was made running only 1 bar!

I wouldn't say no if someone wanted to give me one, that's for sure.

(That can be said of so many things in my life, though.. )
