IVE FINALLY FINISHED MY WHEELS !!!

Post by Tony jinxy froude »

I recently bought these on ebay, they are a set of original 1980's alloys. I was quoted a silly price to have them restored so decided to do it myself & also had a set of centre caps made by a local company, i finished them a couple of days ago & had Goodyear eagle F1 GDS3 fitted today 195/50/15's. Im really happy with the results.anyone care to cooment, good or bad, cheers, Jinxy

Very nice mate, I'm a big fan of the retro look and you've done well there. What's the width and offset like on those? Nice job! :D

Hi Mike, thanks for the comments. I dont know the offset i must admit, but they originally came off of a MK1, the original owner of these gets on here from time to time & may well answer that for you if he spots this post, cheers, Jinxy

Nice! They look great, I was going to bid on those when they are on ebay (must be the same wheels!)
How did you go about restoring them?? Wet and dry and lots of elbow grease I imagine?
I've got a set of rims to do as well, I need some tips! You've done well there, they suit the car well in my opinion. Good effort

Good choice, they look really nice on yours. Think it needs to be a dark car though, not sure how well they'd work on white or silver, but great on a dark blue one.

Well done mate. I know just how hard DIY wheel restoration can be. Wore my thumbs of doing mine. (And now they're sat in the garage. Mad eh?)

Yep, loads & loads of elbow grease  , it was really hard to make sure that the last wheel looked as good as the first one, because i just wanted to get them finished & on my car. Lots of wet & dry, loads of paint, laquer, even more swearing  , by the end of last week i could have done a bank job & got away with it..... had no fingerprints left on my fingers !!  . Those centre caps were a real pain to research, the perspex dome's were cut from a sold bar of perspex then hand finished & polished as the old ones had faded & had stress cracks from age, they also had 'RW' in the centre caps so decided the MK1 Eagle would look great instead. im still not happy with one of the wheels as it still has some slight curbing which i plan to take to an alloy wheel specialist after JAE to finish off ,but you can only see it if you look closely. Karl your right , this is exactly what Kev & i said, they definately look better on a dark car, we put one up against Nigels ( Russd1 ) white MK1 and they didnt look right & they looked superb against Kev's sherwood toning Supercharger when it was here 8-[ , cheers, Jinxy

Cheers Lauren !, they look very similar to the U.S MK1 wheels, not sure if they were just on superchargers / super editions though, you may know.

Nooo! not a Beemer, they look very similar though, centre set up is very different & had a good look at one recently just in case something happened to my centre caps & they are totally different, so is the style of basketweave pattern, Jinxy

I think them looking well nice :D
I reckon spoked wheels suit the lines of mk1s better than the teardrop alloys - I wish I could afford to get some new rims

SCs and SEs had diamond cut teardrops... no other wheels were fitted as standard. Of course dealers may have offered other wheel packages.
