Got a picture of one?
You can usually tell by the size of the rocker cover.
Think it's an 8v and they're usually single cam.

Twin cam - one belt driven, one driven from the other.

Why is the power so poor if it's 2.0 16v dohc?
Wasnt the 1.6 from the mk1 more powerful?

The "FE" economy head has just been designed with different objectives than the "GE" performance head.

E.g. the valves are smaller, and closer together in the head, which prevents the car reving as highly as a GE car. But it does help low end torque.

Also, the fueling / mapping etc are scaled back accordingly, which also affects power.

It's not so much poor power in the FE as very high power per 1000cc for the GE's in that era. Consider that a '91 Ford pinto twin cam gave 118 bhp and far less torque, a latter day zetec 2.0 gives 130 bhp.
It's a lugger not a screamer but if you learn how to use the torque it'll eat up road mile after mile, no frantic gear changing :D .
Remember, the catted FE coupe has more torque per tonne than the catted GE!!

i had a fe engine in my old mr2 before i brought the ge,

i must say its not exactly slow car it still pretty nippy when you want it to be, i even spun it the secon day after i owned it,

there a good engine will keep going and going, but compared to the ge once its going there is no contest

119 is not bad for the car as the car is very light hence should not be an issue though the FE is pretty old stuff now and really in terms of sports cars go they would be the bottom end in terms of preformance.

Have a look at Goldy's video from the trackday on Saturday to see how well an FE powered car can go
