Tubby Exhaust

Post by Jaz »

Ive currently got an Apexi GT Spec exhaust on my tubby, its been fitted now for about 2 weeks.

Basically ive had enough of it, its a wonderfully made stainless exhaust, looks really good and gives impressive performance. It is however stupidly loud. If this was a weekend car it wouldnt bother me but as its an everyday car its gonna have to go.

Small quicktime movie of the exhaust :-

Mine also runs an Aussie downpipe so this will have an impact on the noise level.

Basically what i need to know, does anyone here have a performance exhaust fitted to their tubby (in conjuction with a downpipe) that isnt ear bleeding loud! Ive read mixed reviews on the mongoose, some say its quiet, others say its loud.

Cheers,

James.

My Apexi will be up for sale if anyone wishes to make me a reasonable offer :)

Sorry to not answer your question but can i say your car looks cool
and the exhaust sounds brilliant, i think im used to that sound though
as i had a peco exhaust on my escort years ago then another loud
exhaust on the rover! It set car alarms off it was so loud
and you couldnt hear anything while driving down the motorway. :P

ive got a powerflow system atm which isnt loud but it sounds amazing
i think the downpipe will make it even louder though when thats added
next week

ive got a mongoose and a hyper downpipe , to be honest its loud!!!!

no as loud as some but im afraid most after market exhausts are designed to have a cat infront of them ,,,

the only system u will ever get that is quiter than a bought system will be a costom made one but it wont flow as well ,

there is a aftermarket system thats fitted to a customers of mines tubbie but i can remember the name it has a very large exhaust cylincer just like the standard one that sounds very nice and not to loud!!

Yeah i used to have an aftermarket exhaust on prior to the Apexi. It was single exit with a back box similar to that of the std, and it was lovely and civilised. The only reason I changed it was cause it wasnt stainless and had developed a couple of holes.

That why I went for the Apexi, it being stainless.

Ive just noticed on www.mtte.co.uk that they are selling the new replacement to the HKS Hyper, the Silent Hi Power. Anyone ever heard one of these? According to HKS they are designed to be at a similar level to std which sounds rather tempting.

why dont you just stick the baffle in it?

if you havent got one, i think they can be bought for about £40, not cheap.... but cheaper than replacing the exhaust :)

Mainly because the baffle makes it sound god awful and has such a negative effect on the spool up and performance its pointless :(

I had a mongoose and aussie DP on my Rev2. Drove through europe at high speed for prolonged periods of time.

The car had a sound that was appreciated by all. Even my ma' loved it (she was in the car throught europe) How much are you looking for for your apexi? and do you have any pics?

I dont have any pics of mine at the mo just the quicktime movie i posted - this does give a good view of the exhaust.

A pic of the system can be found here though :-

As for what im looking for im not entirely sure, as i said its only been on the car for 2 weeks so is as good as new. They retail for around £650 +, so make an offer :)

Thanks for the offer Shaf, but im really after a new system and its got to be stainless.
