[Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
didnt expect to making this post after less than 2 weeks ownership , think it just needs a bit of wd40 in the dizzy cap but was a little dark and wet to looking under the bonnet
Re: [Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
my car used to get water ingress in the ignition system whenever it rained heavy used some electrical spray and doesnt do it anymore.
fingers crossed for ya mate.

Re: [Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
so, went to start it to go to work this morning, wouldnt start again (still raining at this time) so had to jump in the cavalier which actually felt smooth and comfortable after driving the tubby for 2 weeks, lol, in fact the clutch felt so light i had to look down to make sure i was actually pressing a pedal
Nipped home at lunch time to see if i could sort it out - starts first time (dry and sunny by now)
Surely the seal isnt THAT bad between cap and distributor? starting to think i'd bought an eighties british motor for a while there
Will a new cap seal better? anybody know mrt's part numbers for cap and arm?
cheers
Jay

cant thing of the proper name
go to your local motor factors and ask for some electical spray that protects water from getting round igntion components.
wd40 will work to a certain degree but the stuff i used formed a film over my leads etc and it always starts perfectly now even after torential rain.
im sure someone will think of the name of the stuff.
spray the ht leads, dissy cap inside and out and it should be ok.

Make sure it is actually the dizzy first, take it off an inspect it, probably does need replacing, but it could be something else causing problems .

there should be a rubber gasket between cap and dizzy anyway...
Do you have aftermarket leads? Rev2+ Turbos have a barb on the cap for the plastic clip that secures the OEM leads... I've seen aftermarket leads that just have a rubber over-end fitment which of course will not seal around such a barb!!!
Double check fitment of lead on the ignition coil, as soaking the coil can often lead to poor or no attempt to start!

Replace your dizzy cap and it shouldnt happen again. Its the winter weather taking its toll. Happend to me last year and since replacing the dizzy it hasnt happened again.
Re: [Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
well, just over 2 weeks now and already the most unreliable f***king car i've ever owned aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh
this was this morning on my way to work, had spluttered just a little bit on the way but thought it was ok, pulled out the sliproad on to roundabout and just died on me, few seconds later a quite loud crack/bang noise (metallic sounding) from the engine bay, few seconds later another one

Ah think I found out what was up from your other post!
Re: [Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
thanks to all that have replied to this thread, i think its quite obvious what the running issues are now but its the noise i heard that i'm a little worried about
Re: [Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
ok, ordered the cap and arm from mrt, wont be here till thursday
dont really want to try starting the car till then, so, as the battery is dead anyway and i've got a couple of days, should i get a battery charger or should it be ok just using jump leads then taking it for a good run?
chers

Re: [Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
Dont know whether the Mk2 has a battery charge meter, but my guess is its only flat coz of trying to start it so often, so dont worry, jump it on Thursday, and do what a '2 does best, Drive
Re: [Mk2 Turbo] dam car wont start
m8 it happened to me the other day car died then ran fine then died then big bang from the exhaust i have never changed the dizzy on my rev2 so getting the parts today from mrt for about £60 cap+rotor arm lets hope thats what needs replacing [-o<
