MR2 v Scooby

Post by adamshaw »

Hi guys,

Was wondering if this is about right.
I have a rev 3 tubby:

1 week ago smoked a standard scooby WRX.

This morning, just about edged passed a 53 reg WRX STI?

My car is a rev 3 tubby with CT26 Hybrid rebuild. no other mods?

Is this correct as i fair enough roasting a standard wrx, but an STI aswell??

Surely i he had somethig wrong, should he have toasted me alivce??

i would imagine if youve a hybrid you would be running 300bhp or something if the boost is raised, a sti are around 280bhp i think......

there are some more powerful ones i think, like the p1......
wrx ones are around 200-220bhp i remember reading.....

turn up the boost to 18psi and do other basic mods liek boost controller. exhaust, induction, decat etc and you should edge past them with no trouble..... although a lot of scoobys have also been modified and the new ones are closer to 300bhp nowadays

I was considering a new wrx as a day to day car, very good and quickish, and definetly worth the 15k from a car supermarket

My mate took me out in his Scooby yesterday. Its a type R 3 door import (same as UK P1). Its std and immaculate. It felt fast but not as fast as my MR2 (312bhp fly). He reckons my car is much faster than his after I took him out in mine afterwards. His scooby felt a lot safer though. It handeled so sweet! I wish i felt as safe in my MR2!

Forget it, unless you really like having every hand jockey on the road trying to race you all the time, as well as large groups of teenage boys clambering over the car every time you park up asking how fast it is. :eye:
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

I'd concentrate on re-assembling your 100 other cars first!

What I cant work out is if you can afford to drop 15K on a WRX as your "day to day car", why are messing around with a 1993 Rev2 MR2??

Also why would you want either when your 325i obviously has the power to "beat most bikes you race"??

.......and also didnt you mention something about a skyline being rebuilt sometime ago??................

Not doubting your credability its just that im still waiting to see even a picture of your MR2 as im interested to see it especially the "MRD GTR-2 Kit"...... As I said not doubting your statements or anything....

I currently own both, so i'd say am in a good position to answer this.

There so many variants of Scoobies nowadays, i've lost count. There are some absolutely poo ones, such as the early UK spec ones to WRXs to the JDM ones. The quickER ones by far are the later UK spec ones, such as the WR1 and the JDM Type-Rs, Type-RAs and the 22Bs.

I currently own the Type-RA, currently running 363BHP. Considering this is a car that does 4.3 to 60 in standard form, anything above 300-350BHP in these cars and your almost untouchable on the road. According to the datalogging on my car it does a dig to a 100 in about 9.5 seconds

However, when my MR2 was running 325BHP, it felt faster. Don't know why, it just did. I think its down to the car being pushed (mid engine rwd), rather then being pulled (front engine 4wd)! But in-fact my current Scoob is a fair bit faster, even in a straight line!

With the current weather, driving conditions...the Scoob is an absolute dream to drive. I could plant it in the wet, damp conditions, you'd feel the diff come into play and it'll just grip and catapult ya, no slidage, etc! The Evo VII i temporarily owned was very similar too!

Your right in the sense that the Scooby feels so much safer, especially at higher speeds. However, when i say there more headache then there worth, i really mean it. Attracts the wrong attention, always looking over your shoulder, etc etc!
