... for your bank managers heart condition

I've just been looking through the Fensport site. WOW! So much you can do to a MK1 :o

Considering that I have recently spend well over £3k pushing my 998cc '89 Mini Thirty from 40bhp to a 1430cc Stage 4 125bhp Scooby chaser I think that I might have fun playing with the MR2

Fun thing about the Mini is that people don't expect you to chew the ass off lard ass riceboys, never mind more performance orientated hardware. I'll just have to see how restrained I can be with the Toyota 8)

There are some mk1s on IMOC which have had serious money / time thrown at them, with some superb results.

Toni will have a powerful Twincharged one *when* it's finished, we've got a reasonably trick SC, and there are lots more out there.. I spose we just don't shout about it as much

Dont mean to be rude but minis dont chase scoobys unless they have had a honda engine conversion in which case they are pretty good through the corners then other wise they are bit gay reallly !!!

Sorry, but I'd have to disagree with you there mate.

Typically speaking -

Impreza turbo 93-01 - 1235kg - 214bhp = 173bhp/ton

Mini 1430 - 620kg - 125bhp = 201bhp/ton

I've owned and raced a 1380 mini round Knockhill and the only stuff I couldn't get past were the elise boys.

How many impezas do you know of with this much power?

The stock uk cars made 204bhp, but the amount of 240bhp wrx's and 270bhp sti's going around is ridiculous.

So that's 1235kgs - 240bhp = 194bhp/ton for the wrx

and the sti, 1235kgs - 270bhp = 218bhp/ton.

but that's in standard form.....how many are stock, not many i bet.

I'm not knocking the mini, but i very much doubt it's a scooby chaser somehow.

Thats just regular bolt on stuff though mate, take a look at www.twobrutal.co.uk we are dedicated to making these things absolutely fly...and by that i mean 220bhp plus per ton.

We take the mk1 to the limit and sometimes beyond, all our members are currently building or have built big engined mk1's (3s-gte and V6).

Worth a read if nothing else.

Once run-in it should hit 0-60 in good sub 7 second times. Enough to scare a fair few idiots in Scoobies with zero driving skills. I know that the newer Subarus hit 60 in around 5secs so with those the only thing I'm chewing is the gravel they kick up but they don't expect you to hang on to their rear spoilers in a Mini. Have to admit that on the long stuff I'm left for dead. Scoobies have much longer legs.

There might be another member on here, Chris Chadwick, who also owns a Mini and had a 1380 Mini from the same engine builder.

Point taken tho Mark but it depends who pick on at the lights :)

PTW doesn't mean feck all at certain speed
When you need power to push you through the extreme airpressure you aint gonna do it in a 125bhp mini.

I did like the old skool mini with te rear mounted tubby engine though, pulled bloody wheelies when changing gear lol.

I learnt to drive in a classic Mini cooper, great car, no brakes though #-o

Even if you had a 1.4 125bhp mini, the Scooby is a 2000 turbo, and that extra capacity, once youre on the move means bye bye mini, especially at 80mph+

I have to support the mini guys here. My mate had a 1.4 turbo conversion in his. Never got it dynoed but that car would whoop almost anything out there. In fact I can't remember losing to anything when I had it for a few weeks.

He easily whooped my old rev 1 tubby. It was embarrasing. And round the twisties I'm sure it was near untouchable! And that was after he repaired it after writing it off!

On the MK1 front: engine transplant is in the cards for me after I finish my MK2 that is.

i didnt think the BHP had much to do with which car is quicker.. its down to the torque..

For instance.. You have a escort RS2000 MK5 2.0 16v @150bhp and a RS-Turbo Mk4 1.6 8v @145 BHP.. they both weigh more or less the same, but the RST will win in a drag race -even tho it has less power, purely because the turbo produces more Torque .

i dont no the ins and outs of this, but its true! you dont see things like modifyed Mustangs with crazzy hp like 800 + beating lamborghinis etc with much less power, purely cos the lambos are designed with maximum torque in mind as torque is speed.. am i right in saying more torque = more foward thrust, and BHP =physical pulling power?

It's a very good point yes.

Torque is acceleration and power is top end speed put in simple terms.

Fair enough if you like chasing Scoobys etc but its still a Mini - if you lined the 2 up people would choose the Scooby.

I know its nice to say your car can do that but anybody can put a big engine into a lightweight car - just look at the Caterhams / Westfields.

I used to like Mini's but everyone that owns them just bang on about how great they are - and it really put me off getting one. I had a mate at school that said he had 110 out of his 850cc Automatic.

I don't mean to have a go at what you have achieved - cos as long as you like it then thats all that matters.

However, if you keep the same engine in your MK1 and get it putting out much more power then I WLL be impressed. Good luck and keep us posted.

Pah! The Scooby is a boring car that's designed to make it look like you can drive well. Most peoples Grandmother could drive a Scooby fast. So it's fast, who cares.

A suped up Mini is just cool, plain and simple. My first car was a Mini, a lowly 998cc one, but boy was it fun. You could 4 wheel drift it round bends at speeds that were still legal (ish), yes it didn't accellerate very fast, but I still overtook anything in front of me on the twisty roads from Loughborough through Nantwich (pre A50 upgrade) to Chester (damn fine roads).

Mini's are about having fun, and they do that very well. What Jason's is like with all those toys on I've no idea, but I'd buy that over a Scooby any day.

Nice one Jason 8)
