Parts shared with other Toyota Models - has to be

Post by geoff_k »

Hi,

Have owned my MR2 for all of 3 weeks now. It is a JDM 91 Turbo.
Just working my through some minor issues with it, one being the Drivers side window not working

For the Driver's (RHS) window I reached the stage of putting power to the power window connector (two pins perpendicular to each other (--|)) and got nothing so thinking it the power window motor.
I also know I have issues with the wiring loom in the door.
The motor is not cheap to replace. Been researching and notice the switch gear on an 80 series Landcruiser is very similar. In fact I bet you could clip out the individual window controls and plug them straight in (HAVE NOT YET TESTED THIS).
I have a suspicion that the Power window motor from a Toyota Landcruiser 80 series is the same as my MR2.

MR2 Part number is 85710a (cannot find distinction between left and right hand).
Landcruiser Part Number is 85710b RH or 85720b (LH)
The plug is the same on the ones I have looked at.
Just have not compared the two together....yet.

Find it hard to believe there are not common parts - we just need to identify them

Wondering if anyone else has more information on this.

Welcome along! Seems like a nice ride!

The part number for the right side regulator is 85710-17030. This part number is only for MR2.
I don't have vast knowledge about regulators, but I would also assume a Landcruiser one might fit as well.

Did you verify that the window actuating scissor mech is not jammed?

Toyota already provides a facility in the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) to find all models that use a particular part number. Its called Part Number Application to Models, you enter the part number and it will list any Toyota/Lexus that uses the same part.
Part numbers are
85710-17030 MOTOR ASSY, PowER WINDOW REGULATOR, FRONT RH
85720-17030 MOTOR ASSY, POWER WINDOW REGULATOR, FRONT LH

69801-17040 REGULATOR SUB-ASSY, FRONT DOOR WINDOW, RH
69802-17040 REGULATOR SUB-ASSY, FRONT DOOR WINDOW, LH

These parts are only used on the MK2 MR2, no other Toyota. You may be able to make another one work but it won't be a straight swap

Did you apply power the the actual connectors on the motor ?
