as title, what is the adjustment point in the middle of the rear control arm for, the threaded part that passes through the arm with the two big nuts. is it just to centre the wheel in the arch or is there some other purpose to it?

They are the trailing arms, and just leave them be. No need to adjust them.

The arms have been apart when the previous owner polybushed them so the adjustment is likely wrong hence wanting to know what there for

Usually you don't remove the inner nut, and IIRC they are usually spot welded in place anyway. Saw a guy cut the bloody thing off on FB the other day..

It's definitely not spot welded in place, the bgb gives no information on setting it, just says reassemble and torque to spec
