carbotech brake pads

Post by Martin F »

They are seriously messy, spend 30 minutes cleaning my wheels, go for a 20-30 minute drive and the wheels are covered in brake dust again ](*,)

I have several sets of red stuff pads, are the little clips generic as I have the pads only, really need to swap as I have had enough :boohoo:

They're the reason I painted my wheels black

Red stuff; not too bad a pad... until they disintegrate #-o

Pete's redstuff pads also disintegrated. Absolutely rubbish.

Carbotechs are epic. I love mine. The squeaks and dust are totally worth it.

I dont care about the squeeks but the XP8 compound arent realy a road pad mine lost a fair amount of their bite after not having enough heat through em. They are a fantastic track pad however.

Here is a little comparison between pads

XP8's used for 4 trackdays.

Porterfield R4S used for 1 trackday

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the R4S arent a good trackpad due to fading quite badly after one day. They are however perfectly adequate road pads. The R4 compound are probably the better bet for a track pad.

The weird thing is that the pads on my mr2 still have loads of meat left in them , 60%+, it is hard to understand how considering what they have been through in the past and due to the amount of dust :?

After reading some of the above posts I have decided just to persevere with them, they do brake well and feel far superior to any brakes I have had in any past twos :eye:

I'm running Carbotech AX6 on the fronts and they're brilliant but the dust is maaaaad.

You could try a wax sealant on the wheels Martin - prevents the dust from sticking so much and makes them a lot easier to clean. I use Collinite 845 Insulator Wax as recommended on a detailing forum - one bottle has lasted me two years so far :thumleft:

Panther Plus are/were AX6.

Also, they're the only pads I've known to last longer than the discs.
So while they may be expensive, they're actually extremely good value for money :thumleft:
