Boost problems

Post by Jevanchivers »

Hi, have a problem with my car over boosting in every gear, I've changed the actuator, on my boost controller it boosts up 1.3 by 5k revs in third , just wanna get it sorted to I can drive it properly, so my question is, is there any trusted mr2 mechanics in the normal area?!

Hks controller
Blitz exhaust
Greddy bov connected near intercooler,
Fen sport actuator
Cone filter known make

Brought with the problem

I had the actuator fit, but hasn't helped, it's my first mr2 turbo and a little like walking into the unknown ,

It's only done 55k

Has the t/vsv been disabled? If not this could be why it over boosts.

Does it have a cheap aftermarket downpipe ? The waste gate could be catching inside the pipe.

No down pipe just blitz from down pipe, and the waste gate isn't catching
And it is disconnected

Your wastegate is disconnected? Yeah that'll definitely cause problems.

I mean the t vsv id disabled,
I have taken it to a normal every day garage and why can't find the problem,
So any of the basic,s I'm sure have been checked,
I would take it to pacific works, but don't wanna be driving it 2 1/2 hours there,

Any specialist In the Norwich area?!

1.3 Is fuel cut.... not good news.

Got pics of how it's plumbed up? Firewall to solenoid to actuator to turbo

Next is checking for air leaks

Also what settings is controller at. Set everything to 0

Sounds a lot like the controller isn't plummed in properly to the actuator. The turbo is just boosting with no control. The controller/solenoid should sit between the actuator and turbo.

Like above you need to check to make sure your boost controller is correctly connected, but with the decat etc your system may just be too free flowing that not enough exhaust gasses can escape and the boost is climbing.. I had a similar issue with the same mods after installing my hks hi power exhaust. But the combination of the blitz ebc and a restrictor ring(dont hate) at the bottom of my downpipe to give some back pressure cured the issue and it can hold boost now without climb at anything from 0.9 bar and up.

Take the controller out of the equation. Get a piece of silicone hose and chuck it from actuator to the turbo. If it doesn't overboost you'll know whether it's that or not :thumleft:

Thanks for the help guys, yes my controller is a gauge aswell, it just sits in the ash tray, so how will I knw what it's boosting without it? Plug the fuel cut pipe back on? As a rough test?

Not gunna get out in the car until the weekend, please bare with me guys lol

This is not ideal but yeah you could essentially let it hit fuel cut (at your own risk). If it boost to stock boost you won't hit fuel cut. If you hit fuel cut you know the controller is at fault.

I would personally recommend waiting till you have a boost gauge. I have a very sneaky suspicion that the controller is plumbed in wrong :thumleft:

If your EBC is anything like my Profec then you'll have a vacuum feed going to the controller and then some more to connect the solenoid between the turbo and actuator. Remove the solenoid plumbing from the equation by just connecting the silicone pipe from turbo straight to the actuator but leave the vacuum pipe going to the controller which means it will still read boost but not be able to alter it.
