[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 2 Turbo seals possibly blown, cost of re-building turbo?

Post by manuelk21 »

Turbo seals possibly gone; The MR2 drives and boosts perfectly but has started to smoke intermittently, once the car is fully warmed up the problem goes away.

Any idea of the cost to rebuid turbo inlcuding labour? Or cost of new turbo inc labour?

Cheers Guys

if turbo seals had gone then it wouldnt go away when engine warm.

Sounds more like the valve stem seals

could just be moisture in the exhaust from a cold start, all its been doing is raining the last few months. better description of the smoke would help.

when my ct26 started to died, hot or cold. hello smoke, every time I used the throttle from stationary or spooling up.

replacing the turbo expect £250+ on labour. What ever your doing with the turbo, reconditioning or replacement. + oil, coolant, all turbo gaskets, exhaust gaskets, possible replacement lines depends on the condition to be factored in as well.

If its the turbo anyway :) i'm sure there more bits that just that, but that would give you a rough ball park figure.

For reference:

My CT20b rebuild was £612 including VAT & return carriage. Fully rebuilt with new seals, steel shaft and 360 degree thrust washer.

Work carried out by Universal Turbos.
