If the KYB's are in good nick then I'd keep them, my car had GAB/KYB gymkhana struts and Unknown (presumed to be swift) springs on it before the HSD's and they were great, shame one started leaking tbh - ended up skipping the lot of them cause I thought nobody would want 3 good ones!
Don't discount the TD06 just yet, you may be pleasantly surprised, plus, you can still upgrade it, or spray water pre turbo to expand the compressor map

Yeah Rob I had a drive around in the other car and they were really nice. I think it's got stock springs with it though so may need something a little lower.
Were they not able to have rebuilt at all? I see a lot of specialists around and assumed pretty much any strut could be rebuilt one way or another?
Good shout on the meth kit - AEM 2 stage is definitely on the cards. The Link can tell it to only spray when boost is x psi and or IAT is above x deg which is super cool.

Tbh I didn't look into it, being obscure discontinued Japanese stuff I assumed parts would be hard to come by, and I wanted the extra camber/ride height adjustability of the Coilovers.
Although if I remember right there was a proper gland nut on the top so they may be able to be dismantled, probably not worth it though

Straight plug in, with the labour to wire it in I didn't see any benefit in going wire in. Think the ecu, fast response air temp sensor and brass doofer thingy was about £1050. Further £360 for fitting and mapping (road tune)
I'd like to get it on the rollers after though just to be a number pony, but also good to see how it's been mapper interests me.

I've been doing a lot of research on the Link ECUs - it's very hard to get good info, even form Link themselves (due to so many different versions and a crappy website!)
I've discounted the plug-in for a number of reasons:
- it's based on the old Xtreme
- can't access all the additional I/O (you can get to some with the extra loom though)
- limited by the factory loom and reusing 20+ year-old wiring
Then I started looking at the Storm vs the Fury...
Fury has onboard:
- wideband O2 controller
- MAP sensor
- Peak & Hold drivers so can run low impedance injectors directly (so all factory MR2 Injectors, Sard 800's etc) without the need for ballast resistor
Storm has:
- onboard MAP sensor (which no-one references anywhere!)
If you've removed air con, have uprated fuel pump and run new wring, done away with factory boost control, Air con idle up etc, so much of the factory wiring is no longer used. I've also removed ABS and a bunch of other stuff so decided fully wired in, with brand new cable and plugs, was the way forward if a little more expensive. The Storm and Fury both give room to grow with full data logging capability too, so all in all the best option (for me).

Regarding the engine, should have seized the opportunity to get that cam cover, inlet mani and throttle body painted while the engine was being built.

Well, you could always remove the orange from the fronts, with some rev 5 oem front clear lenses.

I think if you can be bothered to do it then the wire in is a better option for the reasons chumbaside stated - extra I/O etc, but for what you want/need the plug in will be totally adequate. And gives the flexibility to return to standard or easily sell on if you break it
I'm sure the plug in has a wideband input but not a controller, just means you need to run the 0-5v signal from an aftermarket gauge.
Re: the resolution, the PFC has a 20x20 map, so 400 cells, the link has 440, not much more really. But it's more about how well it interpolates between them, some ecus have as low as 16x16 maps but can interpolate between the cells very well.

Just a few small bits this week
Pete popped me back my SARD 800cc injectors sonic cleaned just before I bought them all with new o rings seated in a fuel rail ready to go along with injector resistor pack soldered for the right resistance :
Lovely matt black customised heat shield (again by Pete)
Slowly been popping small bits on the engine bay mainly swapping out the ill fitting silicone joiners from the chargecooler kit and decided the strut bar I had needed a lick of paint so did Toyota red to match the bodywork:
Quite happy with how it's looking now... a little more loved. Still more to go though!
Mapping was booked for Wednesday but couple of things have pushed it back. Now hoping for the week after if I get the last few tweaks sorted

Popped to Mr T and Opie oils and got my final oil choice for use
Oil was £45 delivered from eBay - cheaper than going direct even with a 10% off code. Crazy!!!
