[Mk2] [Turbo] Mongoose Exhaust

Post by mr299ron »

Looking to get a Mongoose exhaust, but it doesn't seem like anyone has them as I think they're discontinued.

Has anyone ever used one of these? Are they a good system? I really don't want to get a Japspeed exhaust, but it seems it might go that way.

I have one, love it. Did a decat too which adds a bit of midrange noise but doesn't really increase volume.

Before the decat- nice burble on idle, respectful at revs..

A very mature sound is the best was I can describe it.

Love my mongoose, and the only thing i'd swap for is a Nur spec when I do my turbo conversion.

Nice, they do sound great from looking at youtube videos.

The only issue is the exhaust is discontinued and it seems as though no other distributors have these in stock anymore. MR2-ben being one of them!

I really want one lol

Well made exhaust. Sounds great. I've had a few.

Yep, discontinued, yet they still make the NA one!? 2nd hand is the only way to get one I'm afraid.

I have a mongoose and i love it, its not too loud but has a very good tone and is a pretty standard looking exhaust.
If this is your thing then i would keep a look out on ebay for one they come up quite often and are usually very cheap £100-150.

If you want subtle i really wouldn't go for a japspeed, they are very loud and drone like mad.

I noticed GTSchris had a Berk exhaust not that long ago, but he's all of a sudden "retired". Right before christmas!! What a right hand jockey!

Last time I sat in a car with a mongoose exhaust it was far too droney for my liking. Although that was several years ago.

It's hard to get new exhausts for these cars without a long wait, or buying a shitty japspeed. I bought a HKS HiPower from amber performance which was supposedly instock, then as soon as I bought it they told me it wasnt in stock and i'd need to wait for it to be shipped from japan. #-o

In the time that I waited for my exhaust about 3 hks came up for sale here. #-o #-o

I mean I dont mind waiting but ffs dont advertise an item as 'in stock' if it realy isnt. If I had known beforehand I wouldve just gone and ordered a new legalis r from nengun or rhdjapan instead.

The Mongoose isn't too bad, although I can see where you're coming from.

Like you say though, the only exhaust readily available for the MR2 turbo is Japspeeds. Bit of a poor service from amber! [-(

I've a HKS Superdrager from an Evo 5 custom fitted to my car, but if a Phoenix Power Departure 2 Pro came up for sale, I wouldn't take much convincing to swap it.

I was honestly on the verge of getting a new legalis R imported, but I went with the HKS purely because it was listed as 'in stock' only to be told it wasnt after I had paid. :?

I do like the look of the Departure, but its a shame they rusted so badly. I bought a Greddy PEX for a bargainous price from someone here, which was very simmilar looking but had to get rid after a while as it was also rusting from previous repairs.

Theres also this recent replica verison of the PP exhaust from the us

Sounds very resonable for what looks to be a well made very low number of manufacture part.

Agreed. Probably the best looking exhaust for a MK2 imo.

About the same cost as a brand new Blitz Nur Spec-R.

There's also the Berk exhaust which is similar in design.

I'm running a mongoose with a decat pipe and it gets 94db at track so nice and quiet for track stuff.

Not sure what a berk is like when decatted?

Just ordered a Berk from the US. My car currently is Decatted so we will see! There's a youtube vid of someone comparing a stock exhaust decatted vs a berk with no cat.

Sounds good
