What's your budget?
Ecus can range from £500 to £2000 ish.

Re: whats the best aftermarket ecu for a highly modified MR2 turbo
There is no 'best'. They are all much of a muchness. Differences for the well known brands are all in the ease of use of the software, the support and the amount of features included for a given price.
Take a look at:
Motec
Aem
Vipec/link
Ecumaster
Hydra

Or Syvecs.
So many to choose from...another way to look at it is to decide who is going to map your car, then look at the ECUs they are prepared to work with. For example Ryan maps Syvecs, Dave Rowe maps MoTeC, etc.
As for the MoTeC range- have a look at their website to see what they do. You probably want something like the M400, but keep an eye on ebay for second hand ones (M400/M600/M800 would all work for you).
Re: whats the best aftermarket ecu for a highly modified MR2 turbo
Ok thanks guys Motec seems to be the one I might go for... but before I jump the gun I will let rstunning one more chance to get this right with their ecu.

I would not give anyone a second chance, if they cannot get it right the first time why will they a second time.
I have a friend that had two engines blown up by the same company, and they were just stock engines

Check out http://www.syvecs.co.uk/products/engine ... nt-system/
At least as good as Motec, but all the features are unlocked up front. Motec are not good value for money when you compare them.
Also Link are a good ECU. Look into them.

Select the person you want to map it, use the system they are most proficient with. The most advanced ECU in the world is just a tool, only as good as the person who is telling it what to do.
Ask yourself do you really *need* all of the features that a top of the line motorsport spec ECU provides (anti lag, launch control, multiple maps, individual cyl Knock control etc etc) or would you be ok with a more basic system and spend the extra money on dyno time and road mapping to get it dialled in and smooth?

Re: whats the best aftermarket ecu for a highly modified MR2 turbo
You can pick up a m4 off ebay now for 500 if you wait around, the d9 cable is about 40 and the 36 pin connector about 30. It's easy enough to splice in yourself. So you can fit a old motec for a good price if your willing to shop about.
Re: whats the best aftermarket ecu for a highly modified MR2 turbo
Greddymr2 Lukas is selling a very nice ecu but i dont think rev3's are plug'n play yet

wow didnt know rstunning was that bad... I was hopefully get them to just tweek the map so it would run smoother and the afr is quite bad on the low table dead spots and hard to drive in traffic.
I would love to know you guys go to map your mr2 and which is ideal ecu for 450-500bhp road use mainly

Sorry my comment reads wrong. It was not R S Tuning that blow the engines up, it was another company but they did it twice.
For our MR2 sprint cars we have MoTec ECU but we do use Omex on a lot of other cars we do both NA and turbo.
In fact the sports car we are building and developing has a Omex build engine and ECU.

Re: whats the best aftermarket ecu for a highly modified MR2 turbo
My brother in law runs omex and was banzai featured on the front page ... very nice setup
Re: whats the best aftermarket ecu for a highly modified MR2 turbo
One thing I'll add to this is, as others have said it ain't the ECU it's the mapper. I'll reel you a little of my experience
I've got a Link G4 Storm
Nov 2014, after my engine rebuild. After trawling through forums when to a guys who's meant to be the master Link mapper.
Result - was ok on boost but terrible in stop start traffic. I'm only giving you half the story.
April this year when to Abbey Motorsport, same as above again a Link specialist with mostly work with Nissan. I was beginning to yearn for my OEM ecu.
Anyway took my car to Fensport a master Motec mapper, hardly touched a Link before. The upshot? My car runs and idle almost like a standard car. I haven't been on a dyno again but I'm sure my car is much stronger than before.
Anyway within all this rambling, the advice is not only seek the best mapper for your ecu, look for someone who also knows about the 3S-GTE .
Can't recommend Adrian at Fensport enough and he told me he's still learning Link
