Managed to spend a little more time on the car this week.

Got the bonnet back from the fibreglass shop. Just need to spend some time now prepping it for paint. The angle of the vent is perfect. Im very happy.

Image

Image

Then I got the dash back from being flocked, so fitted it into the car

Image

And the seat and dashboard

Image

Image

With the plans for the car always evolving, it became apparent that we were going to run out of inputs on the Link Fury, so Link very kindly swapped the Fury out for their flagship model, the Thunder.
I'm really excited to explore the capabilities of this unit.

and finally, i brought this as i thought i was quite fitting!

Quite a good update to bring today.

In preparation for motor bits being ready I had a trip to earls to start gathering unions needed for oil and fuel system

Image

Then I started on the switch panel blanking off bits and making a lip so I can bolt the panel to-

Image

Image

And now this panel has been flocked the same as the dash.

Next up, we made a start on the wiring loom for the car. It's a very big job, and one that I don't have the skills for, so my good friend Benzo is sorting it for me-

Image

Still a long way to go, but making good progress!

The engine bits have now all been machined and the bottom end has been built up..

Fitting in the oil squirters was a very tight job. Not much space at all in there

Image

Main caps have been modified for dowels so that the straps are located right. The block has also been doweled

Image

And the straps

Image

All fitted

Image

I had to modify the sump to clear the rod bolts

Image

Sump on

Image

Image

Front plate going on

Image

Dp pistons

Image

Gas rings

Image

With gasket

The head is still having work done so I just used a stock head that I have here for mock up purposes

Image

Packaging getting quite tight

Image

Image

First trial of the pulley and belt. Needed to space the plate slightly, as you can see from the belt sag

Image

Some head and cams pics

Image

Image

And finally a little something we are doing for the skunk 2 inlet to fit to the 3s

Trying to work out what you're doing here...

Looks like you made a mold for the internal dimensions of the manifold runners, are you then going to use this as a buck to form the actual runners around in CF or something?

The first pic is the shape of the intake runner. Ignore the injector bung, that's just popped there for placement. Then the last pic is the inside runner with the wall thickness built onto it. The mould is the outside diameter of the runner and will be used to cast in alloy in a lost wax process.

I did think CF but bonding it to the flanges would be tricky and may not work well with exotic fuels.

The runners are being made right now and I expect to have them in my hand by next week.

Very exciting! It'll be the best inlet manifold on the market for an mr2 no doubt.

I'm definitely missing something here, so apologies, but shouldn't the HG go all the way down between the cylinders? :-k

I'm loving this build though. Thanks for posting :thumleft: 8)

The gasket is only sealing the water and the oil ways. It's the rings that are sealing the cylinders, so it's not needed to go between the 2 cylinders like a normal gasket

outstanding work, love it!

I've been watching quite a few casting videos on youtube recently (just out of interest) so interested to see how the manifold comes out :thumleft:

Here's the latest progress on them. I need to finish off the ports and drill the injector bungs, but I think it's a pretty close match!

So we got round to getting the rest of the bodywork sprayed this week now that all the modifications have been made to the bonnet and bumpers.

Massive thank you to Allan Stansfield for his efforts in getting this all finished before he moved to Australia!
