GT4 ST205 3SGTE engine into MK2 MR2?

Post by xisantix »

Hey guys, I have a mk2 mr2 with a blown engine. It is an n/a 2.0. This is my first mr2, but not my first engine swap, I am familiar with cars and do a lot of fab work etc. etc.

I want to put a 3SGTE from a GT4 Celica in its place, what parts would I need and what would the swap entail?

Thanks!

You can use that engine but without a loom /ecu from a turbo rev3 mr2 or later electrics would be very tricky. Intercooler is different, non turbo gearbox is maybe not best choice and then there's exhaust.

Better off starting with an engine or complete rear clip from an mr2 turbo

You will need... To make life easier, some not entirely necessary

Mr2 ecu and engine loom
Chassis loom to passenger footwell
Mr2 crank pulley
Mr2 cam cover
Mr2 cam side engine hanger and alternator brackets
Mr2 water pipes and housing
Mr2 intercooler, pipes and connection to throttle body
Mr2 gearbox

There maybe a few more bits, but can't remember for sure

Is there any reason that you specifically want to use the st205 engine? Ie: you have one lying around, or can get one cheap.

Just seems an awful amount of faffing when you can source a MK2 turbo engine which will slot in a lot easier?
