MoTeC 400 v Link G4

Post by MR2 Turbo Boy »

Hi guys

Need abit of help - I'm not sure what ECU would be best for my setup... X2 options in the subject bar.

The set up is :

5s-GTE ENGINE similar to Simon Hicks car.
GT35 - turbo
BMIC - very large.

Dash 2 - installed
Data logger - installed.

I'm looking for 600bhp ... From the setup.

I do need : Launch and traction control from the new ECU

Looking for advice, experience .... :thumleft:
Cheers

Wow!! She sounds like she'll be an awesome beastie lol

Really all depends on who you want to use to map her!

I went motec as lots of people recommended the motec and i wanted Adrian @ fensport to map it on recommendations from owners.

Ashley says the traction control can be used on the motec no bother?! Pm him to find out more, I was told by Simon that the m4 would require additional sensors to work, it may have all been down to the m4 being old tech.

In honesty your better off choosing your mapper, then your ecu. Didn't Simon have a Syyvecs ECU? :-k

Our link g storm was mapped by Ryan @2bar tuning but now he doesn't map links anymore which is no biggie as its in our v6 mr2 lol.

I'd be looking at the reputation, accessibility of the mapper, then buy your ecu for your needs :thumleft:

Dunno about the motec but the G4 has both launch and traction control. Basically useless if you can't find a mapper. The G4 software is also excellent for monitoring but again I can't compare that with the motec as i've never used one. :thumleft:

Cheers guys, much appreciated... :thumleft:

So the first port of call is finding a very good mapper near Southampton ... I know Ryan 2Bar Tuning will not map them.

The search is on.... :-k

Motec does traction control, but you have to pay for the Advanced Functions upgrade to use it, it also does logging (again an upgrade).

The advantage of Motec is you can ask Dave Rowe to map your car...

pm me if you are interested in buying motec and I might be able to help you find one...

Ash,

Let me know if you know anyone selling a Motec. I'm not sure on the model that would be best suited, however I do know I want to monitor the main critical inputs / outputs of the engine since it's for track.
This will be display via a digital dash.

I'd say M4 + Advanced Options only because Dave Rowe is the best mapper there is. But then am biased.

Nice setup you have there. Expect to plough some serious money into that. MR2s are not cheap to make into a reliable big power track car!

Just seen it- it's an M400...but it has logging and advanced features enabled.

It's expensive for a second hand one, but with those features enabled it's perfect for you....I would defo buy it now :thumleft:

Umm...they are used to trigger the coil(s) for ignition when you have a low current trigger, but you have COPs don't you? In which case your ECU can do it directly for you based on input from a crank trigger and cam sync sensor.

Unless I've misunderstood what they are- I'm keen to know!!
