Time to restore another mk1

Post by mk1 dal »

Hi not posted a project for a while so here is my new one , i put this car up for sale with no mot as an easy project ( i was in this car at jae 2 years ago ) had a few buyers for it but decided to double check it and found a bloody great hole behind the body kit and evidence of previous sub standard repairs , the grinder came out and it was pulled from sale i didn't want it parted out or scraped by a new owner .

I'm doing this one at home and will trailer it to the garage for painting .

The damage

repairing passenger side

inner arch sill

And checking the body kit gaps . perfect fit ( the kit is your datum on these repairs ) .

Did the drivers side Sunday.

First job was to put a piece in the panel to get rid of any corrosion .

The inner arch repairs were done by using old wings as they are the same profile , i had to weld them in from underneath the wheel arch a bit of a pain but no choice .

all welded in

The inner sill was cut out and a new one built .

outer panel fab up .

And now welding it all up .

. Get the sills made next week and welded in after Silverstone . It coming together nicely .

Got back of holiday last night so time to get stuck in rebuilding the car .I was up early and went and made 2 new full sills at my mates fab shop and then Phil picked it up from home at dinner and trailered it to the garage . The fronts now striped out ready for the new wings and front valances . I also got a sill welded in on the drivers side i will do the other side first thing in the morning . The paint is ordered and coming in the morning ( 300 pounds worth and thats at trade price ) so im hoping to get it primed for Saturday night , its looking like a late one .

sills zinc primed with weld able primer

car striped

New sill fitted , and they fitted like a glove very pleased with them .

hj, I've been chipping away at the car all week and now i'm getting somewhere . I painted the blue late Friday night and the colour combination came out better than i thought it would it really suits the car . Today i fitted the body kit , replace the brake servo, the rear drives side calliper due to a bloody bleed screw snapping and striped and bled all the other callipers it now stops very well . I got some TRD alloy caps of e bay to finish the wheels off and a new power areal which should be arriving Wednesday . MOT on Monday it better bloody pass .

Thanks mate :thumleft: Its been another mental long day but now its finished and ready for test. The paints been flatted and mopped but it will need another going over before tatton to have it super shiny and the interior is now fitted , its been a lot of hard work over the 5 weeks but well worth it .
