[Mk2] [NA] Burning smell from bay help please!!

Just went to an acdc concert in Dublin and after the concert I jumped back into the car to find the battery, red engine and ((!)) lights all on and a burning smell from the bay....trying to get home the battery died and the engine in turn cut out....could it be the alternator or worse a cable leading to the alternator has come loose and been burnt by the engine? Please help and that is in advance

Difficult for anyone to tell you what's wrong without seeing the car, but start by looking for the burnt wires.

Those lights on and a burnt smell id hazard a guess at seized alternator and the smell is the belt burning as the engine forces it to turn. Fairly easy to confirm with the mk1 eyeball albeit i think the younger generation have been kitted out with an inferior mk2 version
