Parts compatibility between models

Post by mattblack_lude »

Hi guys,

Im sure this has probably been answered to death before, but i couldn't find it using the search function....

I have a REV 2 (1993) and i need a new front shock & a rear one.
Now, will a front & rear shock from, lets say a REV 5, or REV 3, also fit my car? Or are there differences between models with the shocks or springs or mounting points?

Sorry for the newbie question, as always :)

They will all fit, however the early rev's have a toyota suspension with drop in shocks which can be changed, so it will be worth checking to see if yours are this type if so you can just buy some new inserts, the later models have a black bilstein suspension.
So they will all fit but obviously you want a match same as the rest.

Brilliant, thank you for all the replies!

Does anyone know what the difference is with the REV 1?
Im looking at a pair of REV 1 front shocks with lowering springs already installed, but im unaware of the differences?

Many thanks

you can change a full set of rev1 onto a rev2 but not mismatch on each axle.

I have a full set of rev3 black bilstein but rears need new top mounts :thumleft:

Thanks fella, i'd only ever change the front two together if going for another revision, so that's good.

Do we know actually what the differences are though? I know they changed from REV2 onwards, but don't know what parts were different on the REV 1...

I think im sorted for rears bud, thanks, but how much for the front pair if i don't go down the route of the REV1 bits?

As far as I know the rev1 has insert cartridge so can be rebuilt. I think rev2 on the front are firmer and different ride heights. Rev3 are bilstein

rev1's look to have higher ride height to me

rear tie rods and subframe are different, whether this affects how the struts attach i don't know.....but rev1 have smaller brakes and thus i assume different hubs

i'd play safe and stick with rev2-5 if it were me

Rev1 are slightly higher but the struts will fit  the suspension is interchangeable I have put suspension off a rev3 onto a rev1 and hubs off a rev3 onto a rev1.
