[Mk2] [Turbo] Fuel pump removal

Post by bri0905 »

Hi

Anyone got any experience of removing a pump without dropping the tank?

I mean, cut an access hole in the tunnel above the pump maybe? Car is a dedicated track toy so not too worried about looks.

Any advice or experiences welcome?

Is it the only way ash? I'm very limited on time and space.

Very tempted by taking a hole saw to the tunnel.

How long realistically should it take to drop the tank, change the pump and refit the tank.

I've heard of folk cutting a hole, but remember you've got fuel lines, breather tubes, brake line, clutch line and two heater matrix pipes under there...cut the wrong place and you're in a world of pain!

Dropping the fuel tank really isn't that bad, the worst bit is getting the fuel lines off...but take your time and it's easily do'able in a day with decent tools.

Right, didn't realise there was other stuff I could cut through.

Guess I'll have to do it the proper way.
