mk3 radiator in a mk2?

Post by Kylemcc »

Hey, has anyone tried to fit a mk3 radiator in their mk2? As far as I can tell they are the same height, but slightly narrower? I want to replace mine, but don't want to pay 150 odd quid!

If this isn't going to work are there any other alternatives? The car is a 95 na

Cheers

Just bought and fitted this one, it's perfect except the upper drain plug is awkward for bleeding the system.

Personally I don't think it's worth trying to fit a Mk3 radiator to a Mk2, it's gonna be too much hassle to fit for the small saving.

damn thats about 50quid less than I'd seen those ones going for when I was looking to replace mine. As said, buy the correct part and fit it once and be done with it. I dont even bother bleeding the radiator as I dont trust those aftermarket valves (have split a radiator there trying to open the painted solid valve), just take your time and use the heater matrix bleed and pressure cap.

Jam, did you notice a difference and would you recommend this Rad?

I need to replace mine.

Can anyone recommend any better ones for a similar or lower price.

Thanks.

100quid is a good price for a brand new unit, just pay it, fit it, bleed it and forget about it. Maybe fit some mesh in front to try and protect it but otherwise that's the process. 100quid for a new radiator isn't much, wait til you see the cost of coolant  ! And we need a lot in our cars

Yes I would defiantly recommend it.

Only difference between this one and my old one is the new one doesn't have steam coming out the front!

TBH, that's the cheapest you're gonna get a MK2 radiator for from the research I did. The delivery alone probably cost them £10 - £20!

I would probably buy 5 liters just in case because you can loose some while bleeding. :thumleft:

personally i don't use toyota red, it's vastly overpriced your looking at £40-50 for 10 litres. i personally use halfords oat concentrate that is £25 or around £18 with a trade card, any other quality oat would do aswell. if your removing the rad you should really flush the system through with a hose anyway plus the heater matrix

mixed 50/50 it's just enough and i use distilled water after for any extra topping up as you don't really need much more than 2/1 (water to antifreeze) in the uk
