Testing the water. Rev 3 Gt T-bar Turbo Red.

Post by shane34 »

Hi guys

So ive brought julian's Rev 5, its now time to part with my Mr2.

I've owned this car a month shy of 5 years. its been a joy, and had no intentions in selling until Julian put his add up.

When i got the car it had stern split rims 16 inch (still got them in the garage). aftermarket exhaust and coil-overs. Engine was standard, no aftermarket boost gauge or anything else fitted or had signs of being fitted in the past.

So after owning it for a few weeks i noticed that the shocks where quite bad, i replaced them with some after market none adjustable shocks( cant remember the name). These lasted a few years until they leaked. it then all started.

Here is a list i bought or changed during the last 2-3years

BC coil-overs new, fully adjustable top mounts, front and rears.
2 x new front wheel bearings
Poly bushed all the joints
refurbished brake calipers.
refurbished steering rack
new alloys 9.5 rears and toyo's to suit
new engine mount bush
brake discs and pads
Japspeed exhaust
painted the sub frame and any lower arms i could

Parts that imo need addressing going forward

Central locking system doesn't always open passenger door, keys getting tired possibly.
passenger leaky tbar, not tried to fix as i only really used in the dry.
Rear spoiler could do with re painting as the edges have been polished through to the white.

Details on the mileage are 150k miles. I was told it was part miles and part km, but he had nothing to prove when this was converted so im stating that its 150k miles. When i got the car it had 125k miles, since november 2013 2000 miles so the parts that ive replaced have hardly had much use. The 3 years after i got it i was doing 110 miles round trips twice a week all motorway apart from 2 miles at the end.

The car is still restricted to around 120mph. Ive never been interested in going over this speed so ive not had it un restricted.

Due to its mileage and a completely standard engine i cant see this being worth more then £2500

So lets see what happens.

She looks a nice and clean example, good stance and nicely lowered

It might help potential buyers if you posted up photos of the engine bay, frunk, interior etc :thumleft:

There is 3 small rust bubbles on the top by the Tbar one on each corner and one in the middle. driver side sill has a two bubbles.

Im in the process of getting these repaired, at a cost of over £300 also getting the front lip painted red and the other sill blown in red as well. its due to go in at the end of the week to have this done.

You may be better off reducing the price and giving potential buyers a chance to repair themselves...?

I think it looks quite well with the black front lip and sides.

yeah ive always liked it black side lip and mud guards hence not changing back to true rev 3 colours in the 5 years ive had it. its different i guess.

I feel without the repairs it does the car some injustice on how well it looks.

it handles amazingly, in the last month or so its had a full geo setup as well.

You do know you can go to essex and back in a day for less than £100? If it's a club car and you've plenty of pictures etc. Then go test drive and buy it the same day and drive home, it's only one day

where you at like? I bought my first and second mr2 from Nottingham and for my current one I flew from newcastle to Bournemouth and drove back. Flew down at 10am and was back home before 9pm. Just steady ride back too. Nice way to get to know your new car.
outrun did similar but his was in london.

As you can see the engine hasn't been touched, standard air box filter as well. Oh there is an aftermarket dump valve after the standard gave up

the japspeed exhaust is is a pain to keep clear, the pipe seems to have slight rusting tinge to it, possible i got a copy? and not the real thing. the end cans and the main silencers polish up, just really need to take it off to get around the tops.

Gave it a polish today and took a few more just on my mobile phone
also a picture of the rust spot which popped the paint out, which was then pulled off by the spray shop to see the extent.
