Braided brake lines - recommendations / ones to avoid?

Post by SonicSW20 »

As I'm refurbing calipers and all of that, I thought I may as well fit braided brake lines while I'm there.

Quick search of eBay reveals there are many options, from £50 upwards for a set of 4.

Are there any particular ones to steer clear of, or are they all much the same, and the £50 eBay ones will be fine?

If you are happy with lines made with parts from China and held in place with tie wraps then go for the cheap ones.

^this.

Get yourself some Goodridge brake lines. They come with the specific MR2 mounts.

The others are cheap for a reason....

Just seems like a lot of money for short bits of hydraulic hoses.

If we look at the middle ground:

What do the Goodridge ones offer to justify another near on twice as much money?

HEL lines don't have the MR2 specific mounting brackets.

Plus, out of HEL and well known Goodridge, I know what I'd rather (and do) have.

Goodridge. :thumleft:

I wouldn't call it being a cheap skate - over £100 for some short bits of hydraulic hosing just seems extortionate to me!

Also, the image / description seems to suggest that these do come with the necessary mounting bits?

Picture showing the MR2 specific mounts.

Quality costs unfortunately. Why skimp on Brakes, or anything for that matter.

The Goodridge lines come with everything all the correct mountings and sealing washers. Goodridge supply most of the F1 teams with hose and fittings, there is not a better hose you can get.

Thanks for the reference image.

I understand that, as said it just seems like a lot for what it is in my opinion. I appreciate the advice from all though!

So, is there no other option that has the bracket out of the box?

No problem, and regards the bracket, I believe it's only Goodridge that supply this.

Fair enough.

Bit of a gap in the market there then - in my own searches I found a few US eBay specials that do come with the bracket, but otherwise the quality looked very poor. It probably wouldn't be that difficult to make a bracket for the HEL ones!

I took my car down to Goodridge in the late 1990s, they took all the brake lines off and made up the parts for their brake kit. Everything fits like stock

its not just a braided hose

think of the connectors, mounts and fittings that go along with it.
