[Mk2] [Turbo] Bubbling sound under car after its turned off

Post by Rocket-maan »

Quick question mk 2 rev2 turbo, after recent cambelt and water pump change, im hearing what sounds like water and air bubbling under my car. Its not overheating at all no probs. and when i turn it back on say i nip in a shop and its still hot i get a rushing boiling noise under the car for a couple of seconds.
Is it an issue or is it just what they do?

Bleed the cooling system. There is air in it. :thumleft:

I have this on my rev3 turbo... I've been told this is perfectly normal.

Interesting, my NA did it after a thermostat change, bled the system and never happened again.

Never had it on my turbo, before or after rebuild.

Over the years I have had around 12 mr2 turbos, all have made this noise sometime or other, perfectly normal :thumleft:

p.s. my first rev 3 didn't make any noise until Toyota did a coolant change, then it did after every engine shut off, never resulted in any damage or breakdown though, don't worry, enjoy the car

It would still be worth bleeding the cooling system IMO. :thumleft:

I'd bleed -- but it may simply be water getting into the expansion bottle (see if someone brave with a torch will check!).

the bubbling noise you hear after you turn the engine off, sounds like it's coming from behind your passenger seat is the coolant filling the expansion bottle and is perfectly normal. The noise the OP is describing when he turns the engine on is far from correct. That sounds like air in the system and thus it needs to be bled again. There should be no bubbling noises coming from the main coolant pipes running to the radiator as they should always be full of coolant. Just my 2p worth

You have air in the coolant system, it needs bleeding as others have pointed out.
