[Mk2] [NA] Location of Engine number

Trying to find the engine number on my N/A MR2 2.0 GTi16. Where is it located?

I believe it's in a really hard place to see on the block somewhere below the distributor.

I wanted to check mine once, but gave up. I guess that's why the log books on both imports I've had left the engine number blank.

Even with a bare block in front of you it is very hard to find.

Its on the Gearbox side - Directly above the bell housing, just below where the block meets the head.

It's just stamped straight into the cast iron, sometimes its easier to make a rubbing of it than see it

Directly below the distributor.
I don't think it's possible to read with the gearbox on.
Probably pete, bob or Luke will confirm.
