[Mk2] [Turbo] Fitting downpipe & Catback Part II.....

Post by androo007 »

hi there guys,

So recently i bought myself a Fuji Leg R catback, and after taking it to my trusty local exhaust specialists, they wrecked the cat studs on the exhaust, paused, then told me to get a decat pipe... and get it fitted elsewhere.

So, patiently i bought a Berk downpipe to go with it, brand new, and dropped it off at a TVR & Porsche specialists (with past rep for Jap cars) before i went on holiday.

Got back and went there to be spun a whole line today on how every single bolt will snap and the job *could* end up at £800 and they didnt want to commit to the job until they spoke to me (although they all sat around and didnt have 1 customer by the looks of it!)

Basically I know its a tough job, but I am really struggling to find someone who isnt talking absolute BS, ruin the car or just trying to rip me off.

Im a competent DIY'er, but would rather pay someone... this last place came in at £90 per hour, so im happy to pay about £200 for a good job.

Does this sound reasonable, and moreso, is it REALLY the case that even the downpipe-turbo bolts will snap?

if OK, then can anyone recommend someone trustworthy in the sussex area?

Get each nut red hot, and you'll be very unlucky to snap a turbine exit stud.

Straightforward job.

Thanks Peter. If you were nearer, i'd be up in a heartbeat!

As i don't have oxy at home im a little dubious about doing it myself, but if there are any recommendations for Sussex i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

About 8 years ago I took mine to a local backstreet garage they quoted me £50 to fit a decat pipe and after a lot a chatting I stood and watched them fit it. after quite abit of swearing and busting out the oxy to cut some fubard cat to exhaust bolts off it was fitted.
Looking back i should have paid them more but they were happy and 1 and a half hours later it was fitted and i was happy.
Lol quick fit ect told me to poke it

At £40 per hour, that's £30 to fit a decat. Excellent deal.

what makes you think you know my current labour prices?

It says on my public website the price for a decat. You know, people google your company name, and the first link takes you straight to the website.

Just like the one you had up yesterday with incorrect information, which you said didn't exist. I think it's the same one that is under construction a day later.

Come on guys skywalker is clearly saying in 45mins he can fit a decat for less than £100 , not 45mins work for £30 that would be one hell of a deal, mental, but on hell of a deal.

Thanks guys! It's standard exhaust rev 3 1994 so it's been on there a while!

Pacific works 70 miles.....If you can do it for under 100 I'll come right on up! Can I come this Saturday?

I'd be interested in ringing out a couple of other small issues so I'll be back for more work in the future!

It's a pain in the ass to get the stock exhaust off whilst on your drive way.

Well worth a 70 mile drive to get it removed.

What mid pipe do you have for the legalis?

Strange comment!

First link takes you to a google cached old website, nothing saying "under construction" anywhere:

http://www.sbits.net/catalog/index.php?cPath=23

Second link takes you to an old garage thread on here (note that Rogue's old address included as well):

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/garage.php ... dee23d99fe

Third link gives you the new address:

http://www.yell.com/biz/sbits-sheffield-5828330/

A bit of cunning search brings you to the affiliates section on here, and check this out- SBits have moved...which I'm sure you knew anyway didn't you?

Yeah I'd rather get this done by a pro I think. I bought the exhaust second hand, it's got a 3" mid section ready to go!
