Red SW20 @ Nürburgring Nordschleife 25/07

Seen another MR2 when you were out and about? Find out if it was another IMOCer here.

Very dangerous corner when it's wet. A lot of people making mistakes there. :

"It's like an ice-rink" he says, and then plants the throttle before even starting to straighten up the car (watch the steering wheel angle). The rest was inevitable #-o

Gutted for the owner :(

This is a bit of a wierd question but why does he stab at the steering wheel like that on corner entry?

Is it a driving style thing? I was taught to try and use fairly smooth inputs and to me it just looks like hes trying to unsettle the car on purpose?

My friend (John Helps) wrote off his SMG turbo at the Nurburgring about 10 years ago.

We managed to get it home in bits and transplant alot of the bits to other cars and amazingly at the time he was covered by track insurance.

His car flies past on the left of the camera car and disappears over the brow of the hill into the armco.

I guess if you're on a trip there and the conditions are bad you might risk a lap just so it wasn't a complete waste of time and money but to let his obviously inexperienced mate have a go seems foolish in the extreme.
I'm surprised he didn't pull him over the first time he nearly lost it rather than just sitting there waiting for, as you said, the inevitable.

How close did their heads come to making contact when they hit the armco...no crash helmets! You would think that common sense would prevail...how many racing drivers go out on track without lids on???

Exactly, and shorts and t-shirt not going to end well if there's a big off.

Thing is, you can do what you want on the ring. Helmets, gloves, overalls, ... all of that is up to you. You can just arrive there in your 33hp fiat panda, buy a lap ticket and go driving between M3's, GT3RS's, GT-R's,... who have more than 10x the power. All you need is a road legal car and you're ready to go.
