is gordaen's wheel and tyre calc extremely accurate?
as ive found some nice bbs le mans id love to invest in, but theyre 8j + 9j with 40 offset each and its saying at that offset the front wheel will be 0.65mm from possibly touching the suspension...
do you guys think it'd be okay? or do you think they'd be scraping on the shock?

8j +40s are about as high offset as you'd want to go. Ideally you'd have +37 or +35 region offsets, to give you 3-5mm more clearance suspension side.
Those fitments will fit your MR2, they are a common size set up. One thing to bear in mind if you're interested - generally you won't get a 255 rear tyre on without rubbing either arch or spring cup, and an 8.5j alloy is wide enough to take a 245 tyre and lighter than a 9j. IMO the best compromise between width and weight is 7.5j front and 8.5j rear with 225 front and 255 rear.

To add to that, the calc is accurate but I think it is slightly wrong about the relationship between outside of wheel/tyre and bodywork arch. Maybe that's just because my cars were lowered though.

Very nice !
Re: gordaen's mr2 wheel and tyre calculator
I had 8j +40 on the front of my NA stock suspension, and it did indeed contact the strut. I had 5mm spacers on to make it work. I also couldn't go above 215/40.

Would having coil overs increase the gap between tyre and shock?
