Best way to remove centre panel?

Post by Black Light 93 »

Was changing the lights over and decided to give it all a good clean back there. Unfortunately it has highlighted some rust so I need to remove the back bumper etc. I can see how that bit comes off but I'm struggling with the centre panel. I have removed the 4 nuts from inside the boot but I can see there is still 2 things in the centre keeping it attached. Have given it a little tug but doesn't want to come off.
How has everyone removed theirs?
It's a Rev2 single bar style if that makes any difference
Thanks

I thought it was just two Philips screws on top of the panel and it just pops off

The two screw on the top of mine just hold the rear lights in place.

This what it looks like at the moment.

And this is what it's likely to look like at the back of the panel.

On my old one the two left were clips that broke due to being 20+ years old and very brittle, (the actual moulded mountings on the panel itself) so yeah, with the four bolts undone it's cross your fingers and pull.

Not sure why they're there at all really. It's a light piece and the four bolts are more than ample.

Mine's a rev1 so it's possible they changed something for the rev2.
I also wasn't being terribly careful as I already had a spare & the car was being scrapped.

Well it looks the same points. I'm sure rev 1 and Rev2 have the same lights/panel. Given mine some hard tugs but it's on there pretty strong. Can virtually pull the car with it lol
