G-Ltd newbie questions

Post by chris123 »

Hi everyone, newbie Questions
I have a 1995 G-ltd auto, and some questions about the 2 buttons near the gear shifter, PWR and MAN
Iknow what happens when you press PWR, but what is it actually doing?
How and when should i /could I use the MAN?

probably daft questions, but any help please.

Hi Mate,

I have a G-Limited Auto as well 8)

MANU = tries to replicate a manual style of driving (ie it will prob only drop 1 gear when trying to over take (I have also heard that you can nock it up and down through the gears in this mode like a manual, but never tried it)

PWR = Gives it everything and will not change gear until just before the red line. and will drop to lowest possible gear when you boot it (carefull this has caught me out before. To keep you in the "power band" (approx 4500 rpm up to 6500rpm IIRC

The gearbox is controlled by an ECU (bit like the engine) Hence its name (Toyta ECT, electronicaly controlled transmission)

I tend to drive mine with out either of these buttons pressed though (for economy reasons) and if I want a bit of poke either drop the OD off or press the PWR button

Is that what you where after ?

Thanks Paul,
yes thats mostly what I wanted.
Still a bit confused about MAN, seems a bit of a waste of time, can't you knock it up and down through the gears anyway when its in normal auto?
I agree with "I tend to drive mine with out either of these buttons pressed though (for economy reasons) and if I want a bit of poke either drop the OD off or press the PWR button" thats exactly what I do.

thanks
Chris

I think you'll find MAN will hold the gear rather than shifting when you lift off the throttle pedal, can't see much point, as you can knock the o/d off anyway to stop upshifting and it's probably why the UK's don't have the switches.
