Respray or new wheels?

Post by n52 »

Hi Guys,

In a complete dilemma here. Do I get completely new alloys or respray the originals?

here's the car currently:

Image[/URL]

I know for a fact I want gloss black wheels to complete the 'blacked out' look but I can't decide on new wheels or a respray. Here's my pro's cons

I know for a fact I need two new front tyres so that will be around £120 and a respray around 250 so near £400 for the refurb. I wondering if its just a better option to get a new set of alloys for like £500 and then get brand new tyres all around? An annoying part is I just bought two new rear tyres for £180 which would be a bit of a waste.

What would you do?

Personally I am not a fan of black on black so I would buy these

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=177318

They are in my opinion, gorgeous and a good price. Go for new tyres all round and just keep the old wheels/tyres as a winter set if you use the car in winter that is.

It entirely depends how much you want to throw at it though but I do think wheel choice is a great opportunity to set a car off!! :D

I did see those but I can't quite find the love for 3 spokes!

I can understand, 3 spokes have only grown on me recently.

I would suggest then that if there is a style of wheel you really like or want more than your current its definitely money well spent, especially if your at the point of already thinking to spend £400.

Black Rev 5 alloys

Post by mr2matt »

Hi

I have gloss black powder coated rev 5 alloys on a black rev 5 (same as yours), if you want to see how they look I will find or take a picture later and post up for you, they came coated when I bought the car but I like them and can't justify spending out for nicer alloys atm, even though I keep seeing sets I'd kill for. But if I was looking at £400-£500 expenditure anyway then I agree with Wilkie, get some nice alloys and new tyres :thumleft:

why don't you do a Photoshop or get someone to Photoshop the wheels you have now in black. Then take it from there.

Personally, I think with the 3 spokes they would only look good cosmetically if you have some big drilled/grooved discs and upgraded calipers going on... else there would be a lot of space with nothing on show if you get my drift.

I have just secured a set of 17" similar to those Advans in the above link, and one of the reasons i did so is that i am running a big Brembo brake kit up front and big EBC discs all round. Will show them off nicely.

In addition to my previous post...gun metal/anthracite look good on black cars IMO.

This is my car now..

Hi n52

Here is the picture as promised, they look a little dull here as they're a tad dusty but shine up nice once cleaned and polished, anyway it gives you an idea of how they look :)

Looks like the site wherever that pic is hosted is not working. I have tried to fix it but alas...not.

Black wheels on black car so good.

Keep your originals as a spare set to sell the car on, no one pays extra for aftermarket alloys really.

Anyone know where to get staggered alloys? Do specific places sell them? Should I be looking for certain sizes? I was looking at 16" ones. Can I go to a site where you can order X amount of an alloy and get 2 smaller fronts and 2 wider backs of the same alloy, is that the way people do it?

That's what im using, forgot the offset though ](*,)
I think it may be +35 or round about ther, will try find out.

Using 205/45 and 225/45 tyres but if I could I would probably go 235/45 next time instead of 225/45.
